I'm "out of the loop". Have any particularly unnecessary remakes been announced lately?

There's like one (or more) announced every week.

Death Wish is getting a remake. I don't think i'll watch it when it comes out because it will be a pale imitation of the original

Jumanji is a sequel now. I think flatliners is also a sequel but I think they said it can be seen as a soft reboot as well. Every which way but loose is getting a remake.

I'm irritated about The Crow remake, but will try to keep an open mind. It will either be awesome or awful, there won't be any in-between. My guess is awful.

My guess is awful. i'm fine if they remake it, I mean there are like 4 horrible sequels....sooooooooooooo we can survive a remake. but it's been through 14 different hands, and constantly coming apart at the seams regardless of director, writer, studio, actor. we'll get it at some point.....but i'm guessing 2023.

The new Van Helsing won't be a remake of the Hugh Jackman one. It's going to be in the new Mummy's universe.
Starship Troopers was radically different from the book, which pretty much invented powered mecha armor. So by all means do a new one as long as it's closer.
I don't expect Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea to be any closer to the book than previous versions.

Wow, Wild Bunch is getting a remake??? And Suspiria.... even if Dario Argento directs the remake still won't be as good as the original

Virtually all of the remakes of classics that have been done over the last decade or so just prove how much less talent movie makers have today than they did in the past.
Most of the recent remakes have been totally forgettable.
Also, the are remaking "The Beguiled". Why?
