For pure horror, nothing can really top "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" I like to see TTCM more as pure terror, but it is certainly horrific as well if one can differentiate. I chose these from the list and they are in my top 6:
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE DAWN OF THE DEAD HALLOWEEN THE HILLS HAVE EYES SUSPIRIA
I rate Rosemary's Baby at number 4, but that is from the 68'.
I never really understood fully the differences between horror and terror, so I looked em up. I guess terror has to do more with dread, and horror has to do more with shock and revulsion. That still doesn't make it super clear to me, but TTCM definitely is loaded down with feelings of dread, so yes, I guess it's more terrifying than horrifying. Hmmmm???
