I started reading Elly Griffith's final novel in the Ruth Galloway series titled "The Last Remains." I'm sure going to miss reading about Ruth, Cathbad etc. but I guess its best to end a series when its still on top.

The Mysterious Island by Jules VerneWow! This "new" English translation (from 2001) is absolutely outstanding!

Glad to see another Wendell Berry fan. I haven't read this one (look forward to it), but I've read and loved many, many Berry books, from his fiction and poetry, to his environmentally friendly works. A man of the earth, born and bred, and will always be. Back in the day I thought only I loved Berry, but once on a movie set I was talking about one of his novels I was reading and before I knew it, I had no less than 6 people gathered around singing his praises, from actors to camera operators, to grips. It was wonderful. So far, my favorite of his novels is "The Memory of Old Jack."

I've started several and Im chipping away at whatever one has kept my interest...
Rose Madder...still sits nearby and I read maybe 10 pages every few weeks lol Murder on the Orient Express...probably the one Ill finish first. Picked it up a few weeks ago and the one I feel like reading most. The Crystal Shard...a fantasy novel in a dnd setting...the first of many Im told. A bit rough getting into but maybe im just not in a fantasy mood at the moment. The Hunter...literally just started it. I love the movie Payback so I feel like I may enjoy this one.

This is an anthology of collected essays, many warning of the danger of industrialism to our world and of agribusiness to our land and food supply. Well worth a read.

Man, that’s got to have one of the goofiest titles I’ve seen!

Man, that’s got to have one of the goofiest titles I’ve seen! Well, the book isn't particularly goofy. It's your typical 1950s private eye, or in this case newspaper reporter acting like a private eye, novel. It's all a bit by-the-numbers, but I've read far worse hardboiled novels, and it was a cheap e-book after all.

Apologies if that came off too strong—I don’t know the book and wasn’t criticizing it, just the title. (I’ve been thinking a lot about titles recently—mostly because I can never figure out what to title my own stuff.)
