The Beekeeper (2024)A former secret operative makes it his mission to take down a company that scams innocent people out of their money. A return to the old school way of action movie-making, the kind that was so great in the 80s and 90s. Short on logic, but with this kind of action movie logic always takes the back seat. It certainly delivers with the hip, wise-cracking humor and plenty of gory action. Wild, fast-paced, out-of-control brainless fun. We wouldn't have it any other way with an action movie of this magnitude. 7/10

Tango & Cash
I liked it a decent bit. It’s goofy, but it’s a great time.

The Last Boy Scout (1991)After his girlfriend is murdered in a gangland-style hit, a has-been football player teams up with a burned out private eye to solve the crime. One of my favorite 90s action movies. Brutal, coarse, hilarious, crude, extremely violent, and with a touch of noir. Shane Black's sharp script is loaded with wisecracks and all sorts of funny lines that are very quotable. Tony Scott sure knew how stage good, bloody shootout scenes, much in the style of John Woo. Bruce Willis is in his prime here playing a more edgier version of John McClane. He and Damon Wayans really work well off each other, and some of their exchanges are just classic. Also, the late Taylor Negron steals some scenes as the slimy villain Milo. With all these ingredients for a terrific action/comedy, The Last Boy Scout should have been a bigger hit. 8/10

Heist (2015)Along with three thugs, a casino employee steals laundered money from his boss in order to help pay for his sick daughter's operation. Everything doesn't go as planned and the thieves end up hijacking a city bus. Seems this action thriller received much negative reviews when it first came out, but I thought it was quite good. It's a cross between Speed and John Q, and like Speed this a thrill-a-minute, fast-paced ride. Plus it had a twist at the end I never saw coming. Then of course we have Robert De Niro doing what he does best; mobster it up! Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the desperate father is also very good and quite convincing. You could do worse. 7/10

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) - 7/10
The beginning half hour is fantastic, then the last half hour is really good too. It’s that middle 35-45 minutes that slows the movie and makes it feel too cute.
It’s good though. I’m relatively excited for Furiosa in a few weeks. It looks like it could be bad, but George Miller is still directing it and some of the TV spots look good.

Watch as Speakman remembers the good times (in flashback mode), but also the bad. However when let loose, he pummels anyone who gets in his way. The perfect weapon you could say, but at the same time quite a loose cannon with an attitude. But it's the confrontation with the powerful man-made mountain that is Professor Toru Tanaka we are waiting for. This might not happen until the end, but it's a cracking showdown in its set-up and an unforgettable adversary. The villains are an imposing lot too with the presence of James Hong and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. But let's not forget about Mako and Beau Starr in small, but important roles. Director Mark DiSalle (who produced / acted in some early Van Damme fares) keeps things moving without over complicating matters. While it might lack style, there’s no question the stunt work/action set-pieces remain strong, quick and furiously to the point. The streamlined narrative takes some turns, but won’t surprise in plot developments. Watch as Speakman kicks hard, showing no fear and sometimes thinking outside the square to get things done while also making balancing family issues. ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQsQQ84kgqiU6aOaKj6ho-alZT1Os0ohsvJ0Q&usqp=CAU) ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR9le8Mql8cnZEGuwupUcvmSHkGo_OkSV0nhS5E2pmMVaP3gn8d4v8FUoE&s=10) ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTwV4ZtVQanf9_25kooTINaOZpIXq88hEOYUw&usqp=CAU)

The Big Boss is a solid Bruce Lee outing. Though I probably thought less of it, compared to the last time I saw it. I had forgotten just how violent and cruel it could be, especially with the blood and gore. The action set-pieces were still impressive, especially in the last half hour. However the plot holding it together was on the slight side, and got repetitive when characters started disappearing (who were obviously killed), and Lee’s character, who was suspicious, but strangely kept trusting his corrupt bosses of the ice factory. One thing, I gotta hand it, ending on a sudden, but believable note. Sorta suits the dark nature of the film. Also I had no idea how there were 10-15mins cut out from the film, and there’s supposedly a longer cut out there. ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTIzuwczNLud9yO5BZAEVXv257Aaj3aPiBxnA&usqp=CAU) ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSmj9MNy9NqKSbx24n3-7Sv8IQ5FAwipcTV9A&usqp=CAU) ![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQdQivM-w2SHttb7F86t-v0Dqr6za3djbrpvg&usqp=CAU)

The Fall Guy. It was enjoyable, but not great. The chemistry between Blunt and Gosling was great.
