What exactly is it about her character that you like?
I'm honestly just curious.

*hears crickets*
I think Rey's character is a joke.
But on IMDb there was an individual called Ruby Hypathia who was an relentless Rey-fanatic, a nurse from SC, USA. She was kind of the female weirdraptor without the "My little Pony" pedo charm (a big MCU fangil too like the raptor): she would always run amock when somebody said Rey is a Mary Sue and insult them as sexist manbabies hating anybody without penis etc.
The main reason she liked Rey was because she wanted a girl to be the Jedi hero and for wish fulfillment as Ruby was unhappy with Leia's character and role as a child. She also said she liked Rey because Rey did not "mooch from the government". Rey allegedly sets a great example for third world countries how to do it. Ruby said she was a lifelong feminist and liberatarian but a passionate Trump voter and Clinton hater.
I think this describes the mindset well.

Ran into her on the Mad Max: Fury Road message boards, which was a battleground between Feminist and MRA"s. She came off as a psychopath.

I can appreciate they didn't make her a useless tangalong sidekick to Luke, which is apparently what OT fans wanted since the idea of Luke being replaced was repugnant to them.

I would say she had some screws loose...close to losing them. She was extremely defensive of Rey. Literally: "Rey is no Mary Sue. Luke is a Mary Sue. Rey is just the same as Luke." It was hilarious, especially her penis and vagina rants.
I would be interested to know where she went, and if she is still such a rabid fangirl of Rey and the Disney films.
I recently met FuriousStyles77 who was a foul-mouthed fanboy of TFA (got banned here), but now he hates Disney SW because of 8 and says he will not watch 9.

I can appreciate they didn't make her a useless tangalong sidekick to Luke, which is apparently what OT fans wanted since the idea of Luke being replaced was repugnant to them. Rey replaces everybody, not just Luke. Within a few hours:
- She end up with Han Solo's gun, piloting his legendary ship as captain, with his best buddy Chewie as her faithful copilot.
- She end up with Luke's light saber and his droid R2, called by the long lost saber and by dead Jedi masters everybody is happy that Rey stole the Jedi texts and will carry on the Jedi legacy untrained.
- She is the prettiest girl in the galaxy, Leia & Co become her adoring cheerleaders hugging her (instead of her pilots and Chewie) and waving her goodby when sending her on the most important galactic mission to find Leia's brother she desperately seeks.
- C-3PO, BB-8 and R2 are pointless because Rey repairs all, and opens the security doors on SK base, and speaks all languages as tranlator.
It's called Mary Sue writing, the Star Wars universe bends around her to accomodate Rey.
But Marvel, uh, Disney are just not ashamed of Mary Sues.

Dude the Mad Max Fury Road message boards was fucking insane when the film released. Literally every thread was either titled with something like "MAD MAX IS FEMINIST PROPAGANDA!!!" or "MAD MAX IS THE FIRST STEP IN DEFEATING THE PATRIARCHY!!" And Ruby was one of the crazies. Meanwhile normal people like me were like "Uh, guys? Can we just talk about the film?" I miss old imdb. It was like a bar fight in the old west.

Imbd hyperole. I'm glad the gender politics are gone tbh.
But the MM director stated that Furiosa was a feminist statement: Warrior-Woman Furiosa saves young women from toxic masculinity seeking a female paradise as refuge, only to realize it does not exist and that you have to change home ( essentially by killing toxic masculitity).
But Furiosa was no Mary Sue writing, she was well written and executed and interacted well with MM.
Liked it, just not a big MM fan.

Rey replaces everybody, not just Luke. So they're gonna avoid the OT's problem where Luke turned out to be the least interesting character constantly overshadowed by Leia and Han. Good for the foresight. Funny, you could easily apply all that to Wonder Woman.

She's a very similar character to Luke Skywalker but she comes from a much harder background. She's on a very long journey of discovery mostly for her own personal reasons. She has a dignity and a toughness about her but still a youthful optimism also. She didn't ask for any of the things that have been thrust upon her but she makes the best of it and figures it out as she goes.
She's also played by a good actress (much better than Luke was in the OT)

Your being overshaddowed theory does not work. It is the very point of the hero's Journey character that he starts at ZERO and becomes a hero. So with Luke: whiny farmboy loser becomes "one in a million" winner. Being saved by everyone, and later becoming the savior of Han, Vader etc.
That is character progression. That is why it has been copied countless times including MCU.
funny, how you understand nothing.
Captain America could be called a Mary Sue as he - unlike Luke or WW - is as flat a character as Rey, without any proper character arc or vice or flaw. But he is not - he is just a bland, boring nice-guy character becoming BEEFCAKE, but he is too vulnerable and unremarkable at the beginning to be a Sue.
WW? Guess why no one ever called her Mary Sue despite the orchestrated DC hate by Marveltards? Bc she is well written, with an arc, her making mistakes costing lifes and knowing stakes & loss and learning from it.
I know it makes you bleed so much out of your fanboy behind, but WW may be the only game-changer CMB post-Nolan (maybe next to Logan and Watchman).
Thats also why SW and DC are in the Oscar club unlike MCU. Hail Nolan.

]I wonder if you consider yourself some dort of animator considering the nonsesne you type just to rile up people. No, just some unashamed and non-pompous. And still doesn't change that he remained the least interesting character at the end of the OT due to being more archetype than character. Except that you could apply all that to WW. Except WW's movie was too afraid to put her in real danger or give her a real arc beyond "Naïve Womanchild becomes slightly less naïve". You just have to not be blinded by "Oh look, a good movie about a woman!" viewpoint. Maybe at the start, but at least he has to work for everything. As opposed to characters like Superman or WW, he earned his powerups, as opposed to either of them. Because it would be politically incorrect. She too is more archetype than real character, and her stories are too afraid of putting her in real danger or having her deal with real challenges. It's pretty paint by numbers. Not really, she was just WB overcoming the "female CBMs suck" curse they themselves started. She hasn't changed anything, mainly because of how cowardly her story really is. Jessica Jones did a female story better. You must hate David Lynch, he doesn't have any Oscars either. And Kubrick barely has anything to his name, yet he will endure while Nolan will crumble to dust and be forgotten.

Incredible, everything you just said is wrong.
Nolan is the last hope of modern cinema.
If he made a MCU film, it would be the best MCU Movie of all time.
If Nolan made a DCEU film, it would be the the best DCEU film.
Hail Nolan!

I like that she's kind, even when it is not in her best interests or even wise (see "The droid is not for sale"), after fate was so unkind to her. She still maintains hope, no matter how bleak the situation (see "I know all about waiting"). She has a sense of humour ("Classified. Me too."), she's capable ("stop holding my hand" scene) but not to the point of being infallable (see "rathtar unleashed in Han Solo's newer ship" scene). She isn't perfect, but isn't self-conscious about it to the point that she becomes an annoyingly insecure, self-centered character. She takes people (And droids) as they come, she speaks Wookie, she has dirt under her fingernails and smudge on her forehead without it being some sort of "hot girl leaned over the engine block of a muscle car" fantasy thing (i.e. Megan Fox in the first TRANSFORMERS movie).

Nolan is the last hope of modern cinema. Modern Cinema doesn't need saving, especially not from someone as repetitive and predictable as Nolan.

And that sentence right there says everything about you. Either your taste sucks something fierce or you're a troll. Modern cinema absolutely needs saving and Nolan's films crush every other DC film, every Marvel film and every Disney Wars film. That opinion comes from someone who is an unabashed Marvel and Star Wars fanboy and who never liked DC. Damn I wish they'd hand the keys of the Star Wars brand over to Nolan! Then we could get down to business and watch some legitimate Star Wars movies for a change. Hell, Nolan's Star Wars treatment (if he could re-write the events after ROTJ and give Star Wars a new future, so that we could dismiss this current ST garbage as a bad "What if...?" universe instead of reality) would probably net out as a better trilogy than the OT. Dare I say that? Yeah, and I'm pretty confident in saying it.

And that sentence right there says everything about you. I like movies that aren't all just filibusters for "the big idea/theme" and that have actual characters and not 1-note fanatics/archetypes. Which is all Nolan writes. No it doesn't. Nah. He's predictable. Always has a lead who is just a 1-note fanatic or a bare-bones archetype, always relying on "Wall of Noise" music instead of anything nuanced, always more about "the big theme" than anything else. Hell, his Batman Movies wouldn't do as well if they came out in todays' environment. Dark Knight in particular was predictable as Hell and only got real attention thanks to Ledger and his you-know-what. The OT characters aren't going to be the leads of any sequels and new character are inevitable, accept it. And accept there'll be new enemies, thus automatically meaning the "Permanent Peace" ending of ROTJ is undone. It's unavoidable if you're doing a sequel. The OT characters are done.
