That without evil and suffering, people wouldn't need faith.
That's just really archaic and even anti-social thinking.

I don't understand the argument you're criticizing. What exactly does it mean to "need" faith? Why would a person who experiences no suffering not need faith? And how is this supposed to provide an answer to the problem of evil? Perhaps you could explain the argument in a bit more detail.

It speaks to their mindsets. The idea of submission to a monarch like figure. That's vastly different than more individualized thinking.

It could be argued that more social people are those who adhere to the society and are not individualized

It could be argued that more social people are those who adhere to the society and are not individualized You're not getting it. This is where the different mindset between the societies lie. 200 years ago, God was the prime mover and mindless submission for the vast majority of the population was normal. Anyone who questioned this was castigated. In a modern, secular world there's a new normal with individualism in the west anyway. Yes the rigid thinking and old ways are still prevalent in the minds of those who give this answer.

Religion has always been a spoke in civilization accompanied by culture, commerce, & government.
There's nothing new about this normal which has always been based on what people want to do and that includes how they want to worship.

You have to be either red or blue. You have to be either religious or irreligious. You have to either eat McDonald's or Burger King. If you try and get out of this society, then you are considered a social pariah and castigated. I see no difference in how people behaved back then and now. You are giving this contemporary era a subjective pro opinionated bias because you are currently in it. As to the problem of evil, it is a very long discussion. What some consider evil may be a social norm for others, or a morally justified stance.

Individualistic societies, neo-liberal capitalism every male for himself and devil take the hindmost are not good things.
