April 2018 Patch Tuesday is here. In addition to the April Rollup for Windows 7 (KB4093118), Windows Update once again offered me infamous snooping patch (KB2952664). I hid that immediately. Woody has a complete rundown on his site: April 2018 Patch Tuesday is here — and it's a biggieRemember we are at MS-DEFCON 2: Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.

Woody said...
At this point in time (and I would say it's been like this for at least 2-3 years now or so) Flash is simply not worth having installed as it's just a security risk and not many sites seem to force one to use it anymore as YouTube works on HTML5 along with pretty much everything else I use. if something forces Flash to work, unless I am desperate, I just won't bother with that site. Flash simply needs to be wiped out of existence at this point as it's security risks clearly outweigh the 'benefits' of it.
I don't have Flash installed on my browsers, which are Pale Moon x64/Firefox, and while Edge apparently includes Flash with it, I just disable Flash within Edge settings. not that I use Edge much but it's disabled just-in-case sort of thing.

And in other news, the April Win 7 rollup ( KB4093118) had disappeared from my system. However, KB4093118 is back today, saying it was published yesterday (4/12/2018) instead of Patch Tuesday (4/10/2018). This is why it's recommended to WAIT before installing updates.

I changed the title of this thread to reflect the current reality of the situation: Time to install the April Windows and Office patches, but there’s a big problem with Win7I had previously followed Microsoft's March recommendations and installed these three Windows 7 patches in this order: 1. KB4099950 2. KB4088875 3. KB4100480 I did not install the early versions of the April patches, so this is what I had to do for April per Woody: Step 2a. If you have the March Monthly Rollup, KB 4088875, uninstall it. Step 2b. If you have the Carnak patch, KB 4099950, uninstall it. Step 3. Just for good luck, reboot. I then did the following next steps. Step 4. INSTALL KB4099950 from Catalog Step 5. INSTALL KB4093118 from Windows Update – Reboot Notes:1.) There were reports of a "User Profile Service failed the logon" error message with the April Roll-up. Because a second Administrator account is needed to fix the error, I created one a couple of days ago. But I didn't get the error, and I didn't need to use my second Administrator account. 2.) I did the uninstall (Steps 2a and 2b) in Safe Mode. I saw a couple of sources on-line recommending that. I don't know if it was necessary, but it worked. 3.) A user on AskWoody said that "Configuring Updates" after the uninstall took 50 minutes to complete. I was glad to know that going in, because it did take about 55 minutes for me. 4.) Prior to Step 5, KB4093118 had disappeared from Windows Update. I checked for updates manually; it came back and I was able to install it.
