The last great Star Wars movie? I enjoy the subsequent films to varying degrees, the newer films much more so then the prequel era. However, Empire reaches a level of magic I don't think any film in the series will ever reach again. I point to two scenes in particular - Yoda's explanation of The Force and the final moments when we see The Falcon take off to rescue Harrison Ford. John Williams's score in that scene is just beautiful, man. From a purely aesthetic point of view, it's the best looking of the original films.

#3 SW for me. I simply get bored with all the Degobah stuff after so many viewings. Even some of the Hoth stuff is a little plain Jane.
Star Wars & Rogue One are my #1 & #2. Lighter, more entertaining.

It jumps back and forth between my second and third favorite.

I think that A New Hope, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, and Rogue One were All Great and Fun "STAR WARS" Movies as well.

I think that It is Pretty Cool that the Man who wrote "THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" (Lawrence Kasdan) also wrote "THE FORCE AWAKENS" and "SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY".

I think Kasdan's contributions were probably minimal. The overall story structure were determined by others.
But Disney saw value in bringing him back for crass marketing reasons.
As a sequel it ups the ante like one would hope a sequel would--seems like the makers had a lot of energy and enthusiasm to push the envelope in FX sequences. Unfortunately that fizzled by the time Return of the Jedi was being prepared.

TLJ is almost as good IMO. That being said Empire is as of good of a film as I've ever seen. Everyone works so well in it.

Along with Back to the Future, it's one of a few handful of films I wish I was could have been around to see in the cinema. Would have been amazing, considering all the hype leading-up to it at the time.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always loved the opening of this film, all the scenes on Hoth and the attack of the at-at walkers, pure cinematic joy for me.

Easily my favourite Star Wars film, followed by Rogue One.

But Empire Strikes Back is the best one i think.

I have loved all Star wars movies that didn't chronologically precede Episode IV.
I liked Rogue One

The best of them all hands down, and it is indeed the last great one. While the others have all had their moments, none of them reach the heights this one did.

I like Empire and Revenge of the Sith best, the latter for it's narrative content of a democracy falling, Empire for creating a sequel that was way more mature and nuanced than the hailed original. The others are mixed bags. I do not count the sequels as canon, but fanfiction rehashes next to the superior Thrawn trilogy and such.

Lighter, more entertaining. I suppose I should add that after watching the OT maybe 380939 times, those ESB lulls can really take the wind outta my sails. When the VHS re-release (pre special editions) were released, I probably watched the trilogy at least once a month for a couple years. Star Wars shone through, Empire was cool yet those lulls, & I realized I'd grown up from having Jedi my fav movie.

Yeah so far from the ones I’ve seen (1-3, 4-6) this was the peak of the franchise.
