Caught this one for the first time ever. Thought it was pretty good, definitely a typical Coen Brothers film with the usual amount of quirkiness and an array of colorful and eccentric characters. Lots of dark humor, to boot. One thing I found puzzling was the USO dance scene; it just seemed tacked on and out of place with the rest of the movie.
Terrific performances all around, but I have to say that John Goodman steals the show.

Yes, very typically Coens. Probably my second favorite of theirs after The Man Who Wasn't There. Dark and unsettling with bursts of absurdist humor. The Earle hotel is such a great setting too.

I only saw it once-found it weird but memorable. And yes, John Goodman (and Judy Davis) was what I remember best about it. Absurdist humor is right.

I haven't seen it in awhile, but I remember liking it quite a bit. I consider it to be pretty even with Miller's Crossing.
