Which one IS the GREATEST Star Trek film of ALL-TIME? Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) the BEST 'TOS' film; or Star Trek VIII: First Contact (1996) the BEST 'TNG' film.

I really do like First Contact, thanks in large part to Patrick Stewart, who has a commanding presence and is so well suited to dramatic moments, and the guy who plays Data (who does a great impersonation of Stewart, check out on Youtube for a good laugh). It's the only TNG film I own. The weakness here is the rest of the crew, who seem uneasy on the big screen. Credit to Frakes, though, who does a fine job directing. Love the Goldsmith score.
But Wrath of Khan is not only the best Trek film (narrowly edging out STTMP DC) but one of the best SF films ever made. It is such a well made film, beautifully acted, flawless pacing, the best villain, great Horner score and even though the effects are not all that incredible, they are still more than good enough not to distract. The final showdown in the Mutara nebula is brilliantly done. This is the one Star Trek film I think most will agree deserves to be called a film classic.

No, why do you think it is? This is a poll for the two GREATEST ST films. One is from the 'TOS' crew and the other is from the 'TNG' crew. It just happens to be that #1 and #2 are from each crew and that neither has both #1 and #2.

Khan is higher stakes although like First Contact, it has to change the characters to fulfill the plot.
So Kirk has to be a 50 year old fuddy duddy (only 2 years prior he was still seeking a command).
First Contact does the same, especially with Picard. He acts nothing like he did in the series. He is now the action lead with a short temper.

'First Contact' might be an objectively better movie than WoK, but it lacks the pathos of the "I will always be....your friend" scene, the creepiness of the Ceti eel scene, the unintentional comedy of the "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnn!!!" scene, and the majesty of Ricardo Montalban's bare chest.
