So who do you think was the better songwriter, John Lennon or Paul McCartney?
They are of course both brillint songwriters but I think John Lennon is the better one........Or was the better songwriter.

If you look at their solo careers, it almost seems like the bad songs by McCartney outnumber the good ones, while the john lennon songs, are about even, an even number of bad songs, to good ones.

McCartney. Lennon could be too preachy and self important for my liking.

I prefer Lennon, but I don't think you could go wrong with either.

Depends on what kind of tune you prefer. Paul wrote the goopy pop songs, Lennon wrote the preachy songs with meaning. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" v. "Come Together". "My Love" v. "Working Class Hero". Me, I prefer Lennon.

They never seemed to be able to recapture that in their solo careers.

Definitely Paul McCartney. I like both and I think George Harrison is underrated but looking at all his songs with the Beatles and Wings and his solo albums I think Paul McCartney was the best. 'Tug of War' is one of my all time favourite albums and I love all of the songs on that especially these three. Ohh and my favourite Beatles song is this one.

I wouldn't say either has any bad songs. McCartney's solo career (including with Wings) I like as much as I like the Beatles. Which I can't quite say for Lennon, though I like solo Lennon (as well as Harrison, Starr and even Yoko for that matter), too. So I voted for McCartney.

I voted for Lennon, because he just wrote songs about himself ok. Or whatever, most of them were about himself .And I like that ok, just my opinion. If I could only listen to one and not the other's solo career, I'd pick john lennon, even though it is less albums.
