Kind of out of left field, but I think Peter Jackson could do a pretty good job.
He did a great job balancing characters with both the Fellowship and the company of dwarfs in The Hobbit. Not to mention that he's pretty great at large-scale, epic stories.

Not a serious answer for IW, as I think the Russo’s can pull it off better than anyone for the perfext mix, BUT
I’ve always wondered what Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson would do with one of these.
Also, I really want to see Bruce Timm direct a live production.
