um, just realize most third movies are not that good. For what its worth: Episode III (if that is not chronologically counted as 6) Three Colors: Red Logan (as above) Clear and Present Danger (awesome) Return of Jedi Goldfinger

For me, it's easily without a doubt Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). That film represents everything a third film and a conclusion of a series should be. Too bad that was the sixth film. chronologically yes, but it's fairly ranked on sites like Ranker as a third entry next to Jedi, so OP-er was telling the truth...from a certain point of view. www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/best-third-films-in-a-movie-series After all, only a Sith deals in absolutes. And why can't we simply accept RotS as one of the greatest pieces of art of the last 30 years as Prof Paglia taught us?....And we shall have peace!

HP:Prisoner of Azkaban LOTR:ROTK
One launched a series into new territory & the latter capped the finest trilogy of all time.

Forgot about Thor Ragnarok. I wouldn't call it a classic film, but it offers more fun and entertaining sequences than the previous two Thor films put together.

So far, I've never given a 3rd installment a 10/10. However, I've given a 9/10 to THE WORLD'S END (does it count?) and BEFORE MIDNIGHT. In fact, I think they're the best of their respective trilogies.

The Return of the King of course.
I guess some runner ups would be The Dark Knight Rises Revenge of the Sith Prisoner of Azkaban
