John Carpenter's THE THING The Thing (2011) Technically that franchise has more installments. No it doesn't. As noted from other posts you've made in the past, I don't think you quite understand what a film franchise is.

John Carpenter's movie is a remake of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.

Yet to see 2049, but from what I've heard, that sounds like the one to beat.

-GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY*. -KINGSMAN. *Does it count? Guessing those two are going to get further installments.

Well, there's no way of knowing which movies will get a 3rd installment. Many movies get sequels literally decades later.

John Carpenter's movie is a remake of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. It isn't, and even if it was, it still wouldn't make it part of a franchise.

Looking through My Favorite Movies and sticking strictly to the topics standards... - The Hustler (1961) (9/10) (within my Top 26 movies) - The Color of Money (1986) (8/10) (within my Top 56 movies. this movie is underrated as this, along with the first movie, is the role Paul Newman was born to play) nothing else is even close to that combo. p.s. but... Sicario (2015)(7/10)/Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) would my 2nd spot assuming the 2nd movie is on par with the 1st movie. but since it's not out this can't really count at the moment. I think I understand what you mean which is why I did not list 'Mesrine' as a honorable mention for me as the first movie was a 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies) and the 2nd movie is a 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 236 movies) but it's basically one movie split into two like how Kill Bill is, which you excluded. but if this counted it would take my #2 spot currently. sostie That's one of the biggest drop offs quality from a 1st to 2nd movie if you ask me. first movie stands out as I gave that a 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies) but the sequel is a 4/10, which is below average. I was surprised to see THAT much of a drop off considering how much I like the first movie. Fox in the Snow Yeah, I think your right but at the moment I would count them as inline with the topic as there is only two installments currently and they don't fall under that 'Kill Bill' type that you excluded either.

John Carpenter's movie is a remake of THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. It's not. It's more based on the original short story than The Thing From Another World.

They actually made a third straight to DVD film a few years back. It was pretty awful, though.

The Bill & Ted films, if that third film doesn't get made, because Reeves has been claiming it'll happen for years now.

I second the mention of the Hellboy films with Ron Perlman. They often get lost in the shuffle compared to the Dark Knight Trilogy and the Marvel Universe, but they both were very fun movies. I love Perlman and supernatural stuff, so those films worked beautifully for me.
A shame we never got a third installment.
Other 2-part series I enjoyed:
The French Connection - The sequel isn't as solid as the first, but Hackman continues to be great. 2001 & 2010 East is East & West is West Chinatown & The Two Jakes - I actually haven't seen The Two Jakes in a very long time, yet thought it was a decent followup. Bill & Ted Fletch & Fletch Lives - The sequel doesn't have as strong a story, but Chase still makes the comedic bits work

I suppose a sequel will come along sometime. Maybe by 2061.
