Oh it's a shocker of a mispass from Rafinha on '56 as Vasquez pounces on his wayward ball and feeds Asensio who can't miss for 1-2.

I wouldn't worry. You might be better off playing Real Madrid anyway, look what Tottenham did to them, they haven't been impressive today, didn't think they were AMAZING in the two PSG games either, and Juventus almost tore them a new one in the last round. The only thing is, ze Germans do have a terrible record in the final against English teams, think only in 1975 against Leeds did a german team beat an english team in a major final, the rest they got whooped, about 5 or 6 defeats. And even in 75, Leeds were cheated by the referee, not to mention Franz Beckenbauer and the rest of the germans practically coming onto the field with needles hanging out their arms. But history is history.

Was hoping for a Madrid victory but honestly both these teams look knackered / yesterday's teams / past their sell by dates. Liverpool are going to rip either of them to pieces.

Wow how has Bayern lost this game? Bayern had the possibility to completely destroy Madrid, they had so many chances. I think Liverpool will beat whichever club makes it into the final. I'd like Liverpool to win, but I don't care that which specific club wins, as long as it isn't RM.

Was just about to say I fancy Liverpool to smash Real Madrid in the final (if that's how it works out). And I mean really smash them.

Welp, that was pretty frustrating...
As per usual, we fail to finish our numerous chances and seal the deal (at least we didn't have any penalties to miss this time).
And as per usual, we have a rude awakening when playing against a strong team come spring.
Real have to keep up with and are tested against Barca, Atletico and Sevilla at least once if not 2-3 times before this time of year. No way we can keep up after a season of sleepwalking against weak Bundesliga teams.
Sure, some of them hand us losses and/or give us good games, but that's hardly a comparison when the top teams in Spain and England have to perform against formiddable opponents every few weeks.
We lack the clinical, physical style of play that Real demonstrated last night.
And it's not all down to luck. We had our chances but didn't have the guts to put them away.
But it's not over yet and I'm optimistic about Tuesday. Müller and Lewy need to get one each and then we'll see.

The flip-side though, is the English teams are quite often running out of steam by this time of the year (except Liverpool this season, who were out of the FA Cup & League Cup early, and haven't been in the title race). I think Spain have the right balance of games. We really should reduce our schedule in England.

I think Spain have the right balance of games. We really should reduce our schedule in England. These guys are all professional athletes and have played footie everyday for their entire lives. I don't believe that playing 5-10 more games than the opponent over 8-10 months makes a huge difference. At the later stages of the Champions League, I reckon it's more the mental side of things than the physical (I'm not counting injuries, which can befall any team). When push comes to shove, we just don't have the mindset and aren't ready to play against and keep up with the big boys. Before we won it in 2013, we had lost two finals in the last three years and developed the necessary mindset to win it all. Dunno, maybe I'm wrong. But yesterday's match has basically been a re-run of how we performed and were knocked out by Real, Barca, Atletico and Real again between 2014 and 2017. And it's super annoying... Anyway, it's not over yet and we still have a chance to progress.

Anyway, it's not over yet and we still have a chance to progress. Yeah I mean I used to play football every single day when I was a kid, so I couldn't understand it when managers or players would complain about tiredness. But then I got into my 20s and my muscles in my legs would start feeling sore the next day and would stiffen up, then into my early 30s my knees would get really sore if I played too much, to the point where I struggled to walk down stairs the next day. They're fine now, but god knows what I'll be like if I take up football again when I get into my 40s. I think for professional athletes, it's the accumulation of games which builds up fatigue, and they are often carrying niggling little injuries which they don't get a chance to rest and shake off. Most players are covering over 10km a game these days, even for a long distance runner they don't make them race more than once during a 'games' as they do for all the races below 10k. And footballers are doing stop start type running as well which puts even more stress on the body. I think the best advice is that they need 5 full days between games, in England they're often not getting that, unless you go out of the competitions early. Every top manager in England have been saying the same thing for over 20 years. That we need to be playing less games. It's the one thing they all seem to agree on, and don't forget they are privy to a lot more data than we are. I doubt they are just saying it for the hell of it. But onto Real Madrid, I think the one thing I have been impressed with is their ability to manage games, they have experience which you can't buy, can't really see them throwing it away at home, but I've been surprised more than once this season.

I think Spain have the right balance of games. We really should reduce our schedule in England." the high number of games isn't unique to Premiership teams. i did a quick search on the total number of games the following teams have played this season so far: Real: 55 Barca: 54 Man City: 55 Man United: 55 Chelsea: 55 Liverpool: 54 Sevilla: 54 Atletico: 52 Bayern: 48 i'm not denying that the number of games and accumulated fatigue have an effect on the players in the spring. but it's not the reason that Real, Barca, Atletico and Sevilla tend to progress further than teams from other leagues. and i agree with what you said about Real. they are (probably) too clever and hard-nosed to get knocked out at home. but never say never.

I also agree with Kahn that Lewandowski always fails his team in the big games.
Real can have this Schönwetter-Spieler.
