Yes that's right Thor, if the police who weren't carrying guns were rushed by someone with a knife or machete they would either die or be seriously injured. Why police in the UK do this willingly is what is baffling. Yes I know it doesnt happen often but it still happens.

Why dont they give all police guns? Do they not want them to be capable of defending themselves? Because the UK doesn't have much gun crime. Therefore the prevailing wisdom is that arming the police on a routine basis will simply esculate. The coppers don't want guns and the public doesn't want them to have guns.
