Killing Han was probably unavoidable. Harrison probably wanted it. She’s right on all other points though. Rey was a terrible terrible character.

I hope it proves everybody wrong and ends up being fantastic. I'd have more confidence with better writers, but not sure what more can be said about this whole story, unless perhaps they recon the last few seasons maybe?. Better writers? Do you not know that they brought back the show runner who left after season four? The hacks who ruined it in seasons 5-8 are gone.

So… in order to see the “hot new shows” I need to pay for Apple TV? Fuck that.

It wasn't bad and Simu is very talented but the magical world was a bit of a surprise. They should’ve saved the magical world for the sequel. It felt very forced and underdeveloped to me.

Apparently an outbreak of COVID hit the production hard.
Can Ant Man go subatomic to battle a virus?

I actually think directors like Denis are a part of the problem. I adore Blade Runner 2049 and it’s my favorite sci fi movie since Jurassic Park. But Dune, as much as I want to see it, does look like an indie film with a massive budget and that type of thing never made money in Hollywood. Pick whatever era you like there was no time when a movie like this was going to be a huge hit. It’s a fallacy that one must chose between mass appeal and creative integrity. It’s your job as a filmmaker to find the balance. And to blame superhero movies when you fear that you are about to fail is pathetic. Accurate assessment. I loved Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 but they didnt make money because they have no mass appeal. They are glorified big budget indie productions. Film snobs would say thats a good thing but its not. I've always had the opinion that the hardest big budget movies to make are the ones which are intelligent, original but also accessible to audiences of all backgrounds. Its the reason why Christopher Nolan is so adored by casual audiences because of Inception and Dark Knight. High concept movies executed in a way that draws mass audiences, something that Blade Runner, Arrival and probably Dune will not. Upcoming directors need to study Steven Spielberg more so we can get the likes of Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones again. I wish there had been more Spielbergs and Lucases. Nobody really took the baton from those two. They revolutionized the blockbuster, taking it to new heights, then no one ever continued that legacy. You could also go back to great directors like David Lean or Francis Ford Coppola. They’re both way before my time but I know their movies were must see at the time, and remain so ever since. I know people went to see Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen because it was a genuinely well made movie with depth and story and phenomenal acting that also had spectacle and mass appeal as well. No such movies exist now. And I bet you didn’t hear Lean complaining that B Movie Sci Fi flicks were ruining cinema, or Coppola complaining about westerns.

I mean...it's just an opinion. He's allowed his. That doesn't make him an asshole, Neill. I don’t know. I think it’s a bit tacky for creative professionals to publicly attack other creative professionals. Especially when they clearly have an agenda to create publicity for their own project.

Or you could do a mix of both and create a retro futuristic diesel punk home with 1940s/50s appliances with some modern tech mixed in! That would be kinda neat.

Actually I should add that I thought Black Panther did a stellar job of balancing great social commentary and great characters/story.
I’d definitely be happy if Cap 4 is like that.

I actually hope that Captain America 4 goes full political and even goes hard on racism. I would support that. I just hope that there’s a good story and character development to go along with those themes.

Your enjoyment of Thor 4 will likely depend on your enjoyment of Thor 3. I personally really enjoy that version of Thor and am extremely excited to see the Thor Corps with Frog Thor and Beta Ray Bill. I don’t think Dr Strange will be overshadowed. Raimi loves the character. His second favorite after Spider-Man. The reason Loki was character assassinated was because his arc was 100% done in Infinity War and bringing him back for a series was beyond gratuitous. I enjoyed Thor 3 but there were definitely parts there that made me cringe (like Thor screaming like a girl). However, I did not appreciate their treatment of Thor in Endgame at all. Of course, Loki was still mostly handled decently in Thor 3, yet we saw what happened to him in his series. As for Dr. Strange, my main concern is that they might make him a punching bag for Wanda. We already know that Dr. Strange was removed from Wandavision because they didn't want him to steal Wanda's spotlight, I'm hoping they don't go too overboard with that line of thinking. Well, if that ends up being true then at least she’ll make a good villain. I’m expecting her to be one of the best simply because the character is already too popular to downgrade into an after thought like they usually do with McU villains.

It will definitely be very political and deal with social issues. Which I personally don’t mind… but often times that stuff completely eclipses any character development, as was the case with Captain Marvel. Just being woke doesn’t make a good movie. You need a good character too. I’m not so sure it will be. I’m hoping that they covered all that in F&TWS so that it doesn’t need to be repeated. Possibly. I just think back on Black Widow where the third act threw all of Nat’s character development out the window in order to do a very pandering and blatant Black Widow vs Russian Harvey Weinstein instead of actually achieving any meaningful resolution to her character arc.

Probably not. And I’m not sure it’ll work to be honest. The character has had very little development over the saga. And I’m not sure Mackie is a great lead. He’ll do fine so long as he isn’t bitching about woke issues. That will hurt the BO if he does. It will definitely be very political and deal with social issues. Which I personally don’t mind… but often times that stuff completely eclipses any character development, as was the case with Captain Marvel. Just being woke doesn’t make a good movie. Any point in time? The Triassic Era. I wanna see some dinos!

Indeed! And they’re making a Winterman/Captain Flacon movie anyway which kind of renders the series complete filler. Is Captain Flacon a big enough deal to carry his own film? Probably not. And I’m not sure it’ll work to be honest. The character has had very little development over the saga. And I’m not sure Mackie is a great lead.
