A few years ago, prior to the release of The Force Awakens, I created a list of the 10 greatest moments of the Star Wars saga. Which you can read here:( link) Recently I decided to update the list with moments from Episode VII and Rogue One. However, after giving it some thought, I could not bring myself to put any moments from these films on the list despite my overall enjoyment of them. In fact I could only come up with three "nominations"; --"Chewie, We're Home" (The Force Awakens)I nixed this one because it was more of a fan service moment. --The Death of Han Solo (The Force Awakens)The choice that came closest to making the list, albeit only at number 10. Though I seem to be in a minority on this one, I thought this was a very well directed and acted scene which fit well into thematics of Star Wars. However, I thought it was strongly telegraphed, which hurt is standing. --Vader's Battle (Rogue One)This failed to make the list because, despite it being an awesome moment, it wasn't much more than eye candy. Before I go any further I want to reiterate that I did like both of the new films, ranking them both above Episodes I & II. As such, I was a bit reluctant to make this post as I feel that the Star Wars fandom(myself included) focuses too much on the negative aspects of the films. Still, I was interested as to if anyone had a similar view to mine. Despite the overall quality of the new films, did they have any great moments? If you think they did, what are they? And would they make your "Top Ten List"? Thanks for reading. Any input is appreciated.

I nixed this one because it was more of a fan service moment. I don't get people using that as a negative statement. After times of being disappointed with certain elements of the franchise, it's nice to be serviced.

Nothing from TFA was memorable, or great...Well...maybe the 'sandscapes' on Jakku. Those wide angle shots of the wrecked Star Destroyers were quite incredible. The rest of the film is mostly foul shit.
Rogue One...now visually, there were a lot of memorable moments... shots of the Death Star being built, in orbit the Star Destroyer Collision Shots of the Death Star blasts on both planets(forget names/spellings) Vaders Scene(while tonally it's quite a shift from ANH, it's still great)
Probably more if I watched it again.

The rest of the film is mostly foul shit. There's one little moment I like, when those two assclowns Finn and Poe steal the TIE Fighter: you hear like a two- or three-second sputtering of the "Twin Ion Engines" (prolly not even still canon anymore!) before it roars triumphantly out of the hanger bay. That made smile. The rest of that abortion of a film made me scowl. Rogue, OTOH, has quite a few like you said. To your kickass list I would add the scene with the Y-wings absolutely crippling to shit a mighty Imperial-class Star Destroyer, as they look quite pathetic and feeble being used (essentially improperly) for trench runs and dog fighting in Star Wars. I also thought that the blind guy's buddy going out in a blaze of fucking glory was really cool and something, tonally and conceptually, we need to see more of. I want more, like, hard-boiled Star Wars. Shit was sick.

Those wide angle shots of the wrecked Star Destroyers were quite incredible. Agreed. That's a good one. Visually, I liked these ones: The bottom picture in this one, which shows the contrast between person/ship well: According to some of the actors, this shot features all real people in Stormtrooper uniforms and was impressive to see: From a story perspective, I like this one because it finally gives us an idea exactly how Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru met their end in Episode 4:

After times of being disappointed with certain elements of the franchise, it's nice to be serviced. Don't get me wrong fan service is good, but it only serves the fans. Moments like "The Trench Run", "I am your father", or Order 66 will have an equal impact on the whole audience. "Chewie, We're Home" only appeals to the fans. That moment appealed to us because we had to wait 30+ years to see Harrison Ford in the role again, subsequent generations will have have that wait, hence the moment will not be as impactful. Whereas, "I am your father" continues to have an impact today. I Am Your Father ReactionsAgain, I don't say this to denigrate the part, just to say why it doesn't make the "Great Moments" list.

The recent SW movies like most SW movies, have been pretty disappointing.

I mean, there's a reason it's so iconic. It sets the bar very high!

Rey's introduction on Jakku is one of my favorite sequences from the franchise. It's one of my least favorite scenes of anything I've ever seen: our introduction to the Roman Reigns of the Star Wars universe. Just terrible in every conceivable way.
