A+ my #1 all time. Speaking of which, my #1's in my life have been Peter Pan '53, Back to the Future, & Stand By Me ever since.
SBM delivered 3 unique experiences for me - as a kid having a blast with the peer child actors swearing up a storm & having fun in the summer... teenaged after my father passed when I was 12 + my best friends of life were as the film states at 12yrs old - I had 3 best friends pre-highschool & while I was a 'normal' kid like Gordie I had a athletic friend like Chris, a friend from a weird family like Teddy, & a younger friend in our circle a bit naive like Vern. Of course, the film re-watched as an adult is a masterpiece for me... tremendous ensemble from the 4 leads, to Dreyfuss' narration, Sutherland, & even Cusack for gravitas. Capped with a perfect soundtrack & B.B. King's track, SBM really is flawless for me, literally personally.

Rated 5 The train scene over the river didn't work for me. 4 people on the tracks and didn't brake

10/10. Perfect film. It reminds me so much of my childhood (minus the dead body).
It's so funny seeing a chubby Jerry O'Connell. The guy really beefed-up over the years.

It's my favourite movie - minus the story of "Lard Ass" Hogan. The best coming of age movie by far.

10/10 for me, a coming-of-age classic, one of the best (if not the best) Stephen King adaptation, and one of the greatest films of the 80s. Perfect cast. I recently watched it for the umpteenth time and it's still magical.

The famous bridge scene, wouldn't the locomotive driver slow down his train set if he did see someone on the bridge, instead of using his whistle and gas on.
It's an entertaing movie nonetheless 8/10

It's an entertaing movie nonetheless 8/10 I was told some years ago that it takes about a half mile for a train to slow down to an almost stop on the tracks . In that trains case in the movie it appeared the train driver didn't see the boys that far off on the tracks until he was nearly on the bridge . Thanks teleadm for your reply . I also gave this movie a vote of 10 but it's in my top 10 list somewhere after # 3. I think . I also really thought the soundtrack was excellent too .

Good points about the train or locomotive driver, he/she might have been inexperienced and acted out of panic, didn't know what to do...

It didn't have a big impact on me since I was never a young boy, I guess, but I really liked it.
Of course it's poignant that the story was being told because River Phoenix's character had died as an adult, and he really did die as a young adult years after the movie was made.
9/10
