It's hard to imagine a better adaptation. A few little nitpicks prevent me from giving it more than 9/10.

Extended version: 9. Theater version: 6. That really made a huge difference, I saw it in the theater first and was really disappointed. But that extended version was spot on.

4/10 Though the visuals are impressive, the only casting I liked was that of Sauron. I'm being kinda generous giving it a 4. I have no desire to watch these films again. I did like the animated LOTR film, even though it was incomplete, it at least captured the feel of the novel.

10/10. My favorite of the trilogy. I would give it 11/10 if I could.

10/10 - Going with the Extended Versions in all my ratings for the LotR films.
I did see them all in the theatre, too, give each of those versions a 9.5/10. But I understand that it's hard to expect modern day audiences to sit through a 4-hour film, so I understand that edits had to be made, for the theatrical versions (which are still amazing), to make the time a little more manageable (though it's not like the theatrical versions are short).
And, in my 40+ years, I had never read the books (though I was always curious about them) as I'm more of a sci-fi guy.

The movies are beautiful but they can't compare to the books, IMO.

Thanks, SciFive, the wife does have (and has read) the books, so they are at hand. Honestly, just need to get in the mood.
