My wife kept one under the bed with a box of VCR tapes but she finally got rid of it about 10 years ago.

yes. so i have a lot of 10-12 hour VHS tapes. i 'ported' a lot of 'data' onto these tapes so if i am working a long day, i drop one in and have 10-12 hours of background noise. taking minutes to eject a tape, find a tape, insert that tape, and then press play every few hours - i don't have time for that.

I got one from a thrift shop. It came with a working remote. I’m having fun buying all the old movies. They are 10 cents at the habitat for humanity. They have a good selection too.

I still have a VHS player for sentimental reasons, but I rarely use it.

And if so how often do you use it? I actually have one in my entertainment center, but not hooked up. A while back I was converting old VHS family videos to DVD. Have a few more to go, but keep putting it off.

I do, but I probably haven't used it in over a decade.

Yes, but I only use it when I want to watch our VHS copies of the original Star Wars trilogy.

I have one stored away and used to to view some old family tapes before getting them digitised. Apparently there’s still demand for old tapes and the Video Archive Podcast mentions shops and sites that still distribute VHS tapes when they advise listeners on how to watch the featured films. Mind you, YouTube’s also recommended.

I feel like I used my vhs player longer than most. I gave it up around 2016/2017. I used to record all my favorite shows on them and “binge” watch on weekends. Now I’ve gone fully over to DVR or streaming services.

No but I do have one nearby that I will plug in hopefully soon because I have some more family home videos from my childhood etc that need to be transfered. (did a whole bunch of them a few years ago but life happened and never completed them all)

Of course not. VHS tapes -- especially on modern TVs -- look like shit.
Utter shit.

Of course not. VHS tapes -- especially on modern TVs -- look like shit. Utter shit. Yeah, but there are a few movies where the uncut version is only available on VHS. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream are two that I know of. And the original Star Wars trilogy, unless you pirate the fan version, buy the very expensive DVDs or have a LaserDisc player.

Not literally hooked up right at this moment, but I do have one. I use it every couple of years to watch the Star Wars original trilogy, since I can't stand changes in the special editions and don't have access to fanedits that remove them.

I used it to convert some home videos to mp4, etc. For movies and shows, some have better copies online.

I use it every couple of years to watch the Star Wars original trilogy, since I can't stand changes in the special editions and don't have access to fanedits that remove them. The original versions of the OT are also on the 2-disc 2006 Limited Edition DVDs, although I understand they can be costly to get. In terms of quality they may not be that much of an improvement over the VHS tapes, at least not so that they justify the price that is usually asked for them. They were just transferred from the Laserdisc masters of the 1995 releases. I understand there would be legal reasons that discouraged someone from getting the 'bootlegged' HD versions of the original OT trilogy. Apart from that, they aren't hard to find on the internet. The latest definitive versions are the 4K77, 4K80 and 4K83 with 4K83 only still being in beta stage.
