Mon Crime (The Crime Is Mine) – newest film by François Ozon. A delicious soufflé of a movie about an aspiring actress accused of killing a wealthy movie producer who attempted to Weinstein her. This is the 1930s, so neither public opinion nor the justice system is on her side. A very serious movie could have been made out of this premise, but this is not it. It’s a light comedy, almost a farce, with great dialogue and actors clearly having a blast (which is not to say that the issue of sexism is swept under the carpet).
I don’t think I had seen the two main actresses before (the one playing the actress and the one playing her best friend and roommate, a young female lawyer). In supporting roles you’ll find Fabrice Lucchini, Isabelle Huppert, Dany Boon and André Dussolier.
