I watched it the other day and was blown away by it. I haven't seen that many of his films; this is probably my favourite.

Absolutely fucking love it. It stuck with me forever that as the two lovers are being led to their execution on horseback, it was the first time in the movie she seemed even remotely happy. I'll articulate it better later since I just rolled out of bed, but that struck a strong chord with me about knowing the consequences and going through with it anyways for love. I'm glad she got even a glimpse of happiness before she died. I'll remember the look on her face forever.

Mizoguchi released so many great films in the 1950s, probably one of the strongest runs by a director ever. My favorite is The Life of Oharu, but this one is up there
