Rocky start for me. Since the beginning of December, my mom has had some pain in her lower abdomen and her physical released an elevated CA-125 count. An ultrasound and CT scan didn't reveal anything abnormal, although they both said the left ovary was obstructed. She may have a colonoscopy scheduled soon.

Hope your mom is ok. Expensive start to the year for me, so far a $1,500.00 vet bill, a $500.00 dentist bill (crown), $300.00 to have the battery replaced in the garage door and to replace the outside pad and groceries keep going up in price. WKD (my husband) is set to retire soon but we don't know how we're going to make it, he's going to be 71 and I will be 75 in July. I've tried to find work but no one wants a short old lady. I still need a plumbing job done in the kitchen and I need to call a locksmith because the wicked kitties have been able to open the door to the screened porch. 2024 = $$$$$$$. Cat food keeps going up in price as well as litter and I have 7 mouths to feed.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Hope she will get better. My dad is not in the best health but hes doing alright despite all the troubles. He has a bad lung and spinal stenosis.
The month for me has just been average. No better or worse than '23.

I don't really like my new boss and my hours are getting cut this month. Other than... fine, I suppose.

It makes me feel scared of the future. And haunted by the past.

Well, just plowing through work to battle this economy's nickel & dime'ing onslaught. I've 2 shipping/receiving jobs, both I enjoy... & from now until Easter, I'm adding more shifts - frankly there's nothing better to do. I'll enjoy free time balance once spring starts up. I can see a rough road ahead in 2024 for the economy, & I'd rather stay ahead of it... + seeing ppl actually losing hours/employment, is motivational when I can basically work how much I feel like. This winter weather in Toronto has been a lamb... probably an historically tame one. Dec no snow, Jan barely any to speak of... & now Feb still seasonably mild. I guess we'll have another forest fire summer hoorah.

I feel that January's been the calm before the storm. There's a rough year ahead of me. So many of my elderly relatives are showing early signs of dementia and also other health troubles. It's rough watching these once fine people declining mentally and physically.
I own a small apartment I've been renting out to an elderly couple. But ever since the man died a couple of years ago the old lady hasn't been quite herself anymore. Now her neighbor informed me, that she's moved in with him and wants to give up her apartment, so I'm gonna have to find a new tenant, perhaps even make some renovations first.

Pretty much the same as '23 so far. This is gonna be the year when I look for and get a job, I don't know how successful that will turn out.

Pretty much the same as late 2023, maybe a bit better due to less seasonal depression.
But yeah no big QoL improvements as of yet. Didn't expect any though, as my years usually start out pretty slow.

It sucks. Just like every other year. Not sure why I bother with anything.

Mixed bag. I have a job which I am thankful for but it is cold calling which I really want to get out of. I have a near-90 year old mom who I have been trying to see but whenever we make plans, she cancels last minute. Frustrates me. Have been spending time with friends which helps but I really don't like January or February. Probably the time of the year when my depression kicks in the worst.

Not so great. Probably even worse than early 2023. My dad's condition hasn't been improving. He's been suffering back pains again, even after radiation and surgery. Plus, he had a mini stroke over Christmas, so he's not 100% like himself.
For myself, the company I have been working with for the past 7 months, is laying off employees including myself. So my job is ending in two months.
