Any fans of this album? Many consider it the best album for Nine Inch Nails, and one of the most memorable rock albums for the 1990's. The two songs that people remember the most from the album, and also consider to be two of the most memorable NIN songs in general, are "Closer" and "Hurt". "Closer" had one of the most memorable music videos of the 1990's for MTV. Hurt was famously later covered by Johnny Cash. There are also memorable songs like "March of the Pigs", "Mr. Self Destruct", and "Piggy".

30 years. Wow. BIG fan of this album. I got into Nine Inch Nails completely by accident. A buddy of mine bought the EP "Broken" on cassette. It was so good - I decided to get a copy on CD. Naturally, after hearing both "Broken" and "Fixed", I was chomping at the bit to hear "The Downward Spiral". VERY good album! As well, as a side note to this, when I was going to university, in the fall of 1995, I was hanging out at a music store where I usually go. The owner had a VHS copy of all of NIN's videos - titled "Nine Inch Videos". It included the VERY controversial video for "Happiness In Slavery". I watched it one night. When it came to that video, I said "everyone SHUTS UP during this video!" I had only seen the first half of the video prior to watching "Nine Inch Videos". I can't remember what my response was, but my roommates were....not impressed. Joker's Wilde
