Anyone like this?
I didn’t hate it, but it lacks the eerie mystery of 2001. It just felt boring to me.

I was a little underwhelmed by it myself. I mean, it’s okay, but I find it overrated.

I am a fan and I will give my ratings for both movies so you can see the difference. I was far from bored though and think that 2010 is an interesting though unnecessary follow up.
2001: A Space Odyssey - 10/10 (in my Top 5 favorite movies)
2010 - 7/10 (maybe #900 something of the 9,500 movies I have seen)
So yeah, while I am a fan of both, there is a huge gap between the 2 in terms of quality.

I've only seen it once, but I thought it was pretty good overall. It doesn't really come close to 2001 though.

Yes, I like 2010. IMO, it's truer to the spirit of Arthur C. Clarke's writing than Kubrick's film. BTW, I attend a science fiction marathon every year, and their screening of 2010 was quite memorable. They had a 70mm print with surround sound. When the Discovery was about to fire its engines (to function as a booster rocket), HAL said, "Full thrust." And with their sound system the Discovery went BOOM! It was like being present at a real rocket launch!
