.....for the rest of your life, who would it be?
This was a thread about 10 years ago on the old IMDB.
My reply at the time was Burt Lancaster - not my favourite actor but has any major star ever had a filmography containing so many great films, especially across a wide range of genres?

Vincent Price easily. I would be content just to listen to his voice.
Vincent Price: "Ava Gardner. Oh dear. Every time I think about her I go limp..well no not exactly that."

One of my Top 5 favourites actresses: Noomi Rapace. The original (and STILL the best!) Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Lisbeth Salander! She-of-the-excellent cheekbones. For those unfamiliar with this talented actress, she's one of the most talented actresses of today...but she's also very underrated, I think. Noomi throws herself into every movie she's appeared in. I've seen the word 'brave' used to describe some of the great actresses of our time. They're the ones who will 100% fully commit to a role, and I believe Noomi is absolutely one of those fiercely committed actresses. She doesn't let vanity prevent her from taking on roles which require her character to look very unglamorous. In several movies I've seen with her, she looks as though she's put herself through the wringer, so much so that I've felt exhausted on her behalf simply from watching the extremes she's gone to and the toll it must have taken on her body. She's not just committed physically to her roles, but emotionally as well. As exhausting as it can be to see the crazy stuff she puts her body through, there have been numerous instances where she's had deeply emotional scenes and her portrayal of those emotions have been so raw that's it's really gotten to me. Whenever Noomi's playing pain or hurt, I can't help but feel for her character. At the other end of the spectrum - when she's playing a character who is happy (not that she gets too very often, it seems), I feel Noomi's warmth and joy coming through. She has a great smile. Some interviews with her that I recommend checking out if, like me, you're a fan:

Jack Nicholson without any doubt. Not only a great actor with average quality of his movies being very good, but his filmography also neatly covers the period of American film industry that I'm most interested in. Not to mention that there's a wide variety of genres. From b&w Corman cheapies to quite classy Corman gothic horrors, enigmatic existentialist westerns, psychedelic bikers, great many quality character dramas, crime, comedies, horror, big budget Hollywood fantasy entertainment... there's something for every mood.

I'd agree Burt Lancaster chose the most great movies for a star. The Swimmer, Birdman of Alcatraz, Elmer Gantry, The Professionals, etc.. but I found him too intense, not natural.
Marlon Brando, despite not being in many great movies. There's a few I haven't seen, and a few more I haven't seen in over 20 years.
