A
A lot of film to bite into, it still plays as one of the finest epics of all time. More focused I think than TTT, & one of the largest scales of scope in cinematic history I'd say. Not nearly as nuanced as its predecessors, keeping it from perfect for me, it still delivers the goods in spades.

7/10 - Neither of the sequels were as great as The Fellowship of the Ring.

4/10 It felt like it would never end and I didn't care at all about any of the characters. The effects were nice. I didn't like the music or the direction or the acting. I love the novel. But I truly cannot stand this trilogy of Jackson films.

It took a day's marathon of the 3 (2009 or something when I did it) to fully realize that ROTK's 'multiple endings' all made sense & felt required. At the end of the day, LOTR is one book, & PJ made it as one giant film, split up. To run with the EE's 12+ hours or whatever, & simply have it all swiftly end scene on the fellowship-in-bedroom moment would've felt injustice. Ever since that marathon, I appreciate its ending(s) much more. They even did it for the end credits - as testament to the trilogy. The small thing I did notice with the marathon - Frodo smiles at the end of each film. That had never ever occurred to me prior.

10/10, a masterpiece and one of my favorite movies. Deserved every single Oscar.

All three get 10/10. That's a bit generous, but I love all three.

Huge disappointment. A 5 for me. The fight was supposed to be bigger than Helmsdeep, by far, but fell flat. Saruman gets killed offscreen, very weird. The dragged out ending was boring, no sacking of the Shire (granted, this would have been very hard to pull off), it all went too fast and still the movie lasted so long.
A boring finish to an otherwise great trilogy. (extended version, anyway, the theatrical versions were all disappointing)

10/10 - Going with the Extended Versions in all my ratings for the LotR films. I did see them all in the theatre, too, give each of those versions a 9.5/10. But I understand that it's hard to expect modern day audiences to sit through a 4-hour film, so I understand that edits had to be made, for the theatrical versions (which are still amazing), to make the time a little more manageable (though it's not like the theatrical versions are short). And, in my 40+ years, I had never read the books (though I was always curious about them) as I'm more of a sci-fi guy. *Full disclosure - I have cut and pasted my response from the thread on the first film, because frankly, it's easier and it still applies.

Dropped to a 6/10 on a rewatch after reading the books again after many years. All three films deviate far too much
