When I was much younger, we always had cats--but they were the "regular" kind of tabby cat. It wasn't until I was 20 when I was given a Siamese cat as a present, and I was totally enthralled. This little kitty, whom I named "Katinah," followed me around everywhere. She and I were totally bonded, and up until that point, I'd never felt the total love of an animal before. She was sweet, playful, affectionate, smart and just lovely. Since her death, at age 13 3/4, I've had two more Siamese cats, and again, they were wonderful. This coming June, I'll be buying still another Siamese, my fourth, and I'm sure he'll be still another gorgeous, intelligent pet.
What kind of cat breeds do you like? And why?

For me, cats are cats, but I do find the Norwegian Forest Cat appealing. I guess that's because of Andrew.

I'll go with Siamese. My youngest cat, Cameron, is a Siamese breed and we have the closest bond ever. They're incredibly demanding of your attention, so they aren't for everyone. Luckily for him, he gets all the attention in the world from me. He's basically attached at the hip (rarely leaves my side), and he's very talkative. He's also very playful and loves to remain active. Siamese cats are said to be the most dog-like, and it's true. (Just without the barking and having to take them outside to go to the bathroom).
My oldest cat, Chloe, is a Himalayan (which are half Persian and half Siamese), and I really like them too. They are probably the most beautiful cats, in my opinion. I think their personality could probably go either way though. Either more Persian or more Siamese. Chloe really doesn't have the Siamese personality traits except for being talkative. She's prissy and likes to sleep a lot. She's very intelligent and well behaved though, and is really friendly with people.

All of my Siamese rarely left my side. They followed me from room to room, slept with me at night and during naps, and were very, very vocal. To me, the louder, the better! My first two Siamese were apple-heads, meaning the sturdier kind of Siamese cat. My last was a modern "wedge-head," and when I first laid eyes on him, it was quite a shock. But I grew to love his different kind of look, and when I get my next Siamese, it'll be another wedge-head.

Angora. The only cat I ever had (when I was a teen) was half Angora and half Siamese. He was all-black and had the typical Angora look with a fluffy tail and all. He had a very docile personality and was very intelligent. He started out as an indoor cat, but eventually I started letting him go outside on his own. He would sometimes come home with battle scars. I don't have any pets, though I would love to get a cat this year, but I don't know if I'll be able to. I think it's good to let a cat go outside, but only under its owner's supervision. Nowadays, there are too many dangers/too many risks out there for a cat to go outside on its own. I also like the breed called Nebelung. I think they are gorgeous. I spotted this cat in my neighborhood a couple of years ago. I like the way he looks but I don't know what breed he is. He looks like a tabby except that he's got a broad face. And he was humongous! There was another cat near him, and that cat (which was the size of a typical adult cat) looked small next to him.

My favorites are absolutely my sweet little Siamese (one old-fashioned Applehead, the other a petite Seal Point), but all of my kitties have been dead for years now (our house is now filled with birds). We also had a Himalayan-Maine Coon tabby (giant orange ball of fur). The tiny runt Siamese in the middle there was Willy (died aged 9), the leader of the trio, unfortunately was the most fearless (got bit by a rattlesnake and died a year later), not that fond of being held, went under the sheets to stay warm, loved to bat things (Easter eggs, Christmas tree ornaments, etc...), used to punish a badly-behaved Miniature Schnauzer by batting her face (also would try to clean her, but would make stinky faces) and he loved to play fetch with his jingle balls. He never sat still in cars and would be walking along everyone's shoulders. This was my mom's cat. He was the one you'd expect to go fishing in the fish tank with his little paws and unfortunately got a hold of the canary once (Tarzan kitten Georgie swung upside-down on the cage and knocked the bottom off), injuring his wing (though he lived). Napoleon Complex, jokingly referred to as Kaiser Wilhelm. The first one, Mittens or Mitten Boy (died aged 16), was my mellow, very sweet baby (and the eldest) who loved to cuddle, lick your hand, be carried, sleep in my lap while I was on the computer and hogged my bed (slept under the sheets and often shared my pillow). He was the one that traveled best in cars, because he would just lay down. He died on Christmas Day and the one that hit me the hardest. This was my cat. Loved to knead you (he would do it for hours each night) and purred like a machine. Mittens, who was largely toothless in his older years, would occasionally bring baby bunnies into the house by the ruff and did it on Easter once. The big fluffball, Georgie (died aged 17), was the big, lazy baby who got pounced on by Willy, only to get a mouthful of fur and a squeak (who also attempted to clean him and got furballs, because he gave up on doing it himself), loved to be carried around everywhere while draped over you, slept a lot, slept at the end of the bed (he didn't get cold like the other two) and also got bit by a rattlesnake, though survived quite a few more years (his size helped). This big boy used to smoosh himself against the glass in our motorhome, so you'd see a giant orange rug against the window from the outside. Georgie had the cutest little tufts between his toes and also purred like a machine. Georgie went from being a rambunctious kitten (see above), even taking a flying squirrel dive off the upstairs landing once, to being pretty docile. Mittens (1994-2010): Willy (1996-2005): Georgie (1997-2015):

Traditional Persian-they have a cute profile, almost like a child.
