I've not seen a single thing Mr Mount has done so I've no clue if it's a good casting decision, nonetheless the article follows:

There's a new captain in town for Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 in the form of Inhumans and Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount.
CBS All Access has announced that Mount has been cast in the role of Captain Pike of the USS Enterprise. In the final moments of the Season 1 finale, the crew of Discovery received a distress call from Enterprise, showing the two ships together for the first time. In the 2009 JJ Abrams-directed reboot, Star Trek, Pike was played by Bruce Greenwood.
Although Marvel's Inhumans was not received well by most critics, Mount has proven he can be a formidable actor, most notably in AMC's Hell on Wheels. Discovery producer Alex Kurtzman said that while Enterprise and her crew will be featured in Season 2, they will not be the main storyline.
"The show is called ‘Discovery.’ It’s not ‘Enterprise,’” Kurtzman told Variety following the Season 1 finale. “So yes, the Enterprise will play a part of Season 2 but it will absolutely not overshadow Discovery. And I think with Enterprise’s arrival in the finale we recognize that the audience has a lot of questions about our synchronicity with the original series, which really means our synchronicity with canon.”
During Discovery's panel at WonderCon, showrunner Aaron Harberts hinted that the show's costumes might get a makeover now that the show has made contact with the Enterprise, and revealed that "Season 2 is really exciting for us because this is our opportunity to show how Discovery fits into this prime timeline." In bigger news? Discovery will also be introducing the black ops group Section 31 in Season 2.
