Films that take place entirely in prisons or those that have scenes or sequences set in them. Also, films that take place in prison camps and/or on chain gangs. And films that have scenes/sequences in jail cells are okay, too. A few of my favorites: The Birdman of Alcatraz (1962) Dead Man Walking (1995) I Want to Live! (1959)
Angels with Dirty Faces (1937)

Not too familiar with the others, but love Papillon. Great choice.
And I amended my original post to include prison camps and/or chain gangs, so I want to add these:
I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) Sullivan's Travels (1941)

The Great Escape Convicts – an interesting film with R Duvall as an aging, demented prison farm boss that unfortunately plods along. Stir Crazy Then there's a scene in Gunga Din

Invincible inmate Charlie is fearless of the prison bully after the contraband substance he ingested hits the spot... It is a hilarious piece, communist sympathiser Charlie's prison stint in Modern Times (1935)

Two outstanding French classic films come to mind... Un condamné à mort s'est échappé , A Man Escaped (1956) Robert Bresson. Based the memoirs of André Devigny, who was a member of the French Resistance. Set in Lyon, France in 1943, the film was inspired by his daring escape attempt from prison just a few hours before his scheduled execution. Tense and riveting, an undisputed cinematic masterpiece, filmed at Montluc Prison where Devigny had been held, a profound testament to the tenacity and courage of war time prisoners. Le Trou , The Hole (1960) Jacques Becker. Is an excellent prison thriller, a tense cell set film it was inspired by the true account of an attempted breakout of five prison inmates in La Santé Prison in France in 1947.

Take the Money and Run (spoofs Cool Hand Luke and I Am a Fugitive).
Boogie Nights has a brief, powerful scene with Robert Ridgely and Burt Reynolds.
