Would you prefer it if all aliens made a succession of weird noises and squeaks Always worked for me in the bedroom.

And in the neck. Well spotted. But is there any evidence that the other GOTG have those things? And Thanos and his henchmen? You would think as a UT only makes sense to me as a one way device, it translates what you hear to the language you speak/set it to, how it translates your language to an aliens for them to hear if they don't have one always irked me in Star Trek, so if the GOTG cannot speak English they would need UT's as well to speak to Quill.
But maybe the galaxy does speak English as a basic language but it's due to alien interference from the Kree, Asguardians, Frost Giants and so forth which all speak it and have been to earth in it's past so maybe the sewed the seeds for the language?

Would you prefer it if all aliens made a succession of weird noises and squeaks with subtitles at the bottom of the screen? Like in Star Wars? OWN!

I think there is a galaxy basic (that is not an Earth language). This is the language that they speak in the space based movies. You can see that Quill is wearing a universal translator behind his ear. Wasn't it only Quill talking to both the Guardians and the Earth heroes? Can't remember if any of the others talked to anyone on the other team. I remember Tony talking to Drax after Drax yawned during his planmaking. They didn't have a conversation did they?

I stopped listening after you said ‘here’s the plan’. They interacted alright. Also Rocket did on Earth with Bucky. Remember about ‘how much is the arm’?

The Guardians don't need it because Peter is speaking their language because of the implant. None of the Guardians actually talked to the Earth-based heroes. They all only talked to Quill.

Nitpicking.

But then even if that were true and a UT translates what you say to others which I think is odd in itself, does every other species in existence speak the same language as I don't recall any alien language being spoken but no one has any issue speaking to others so doesn't it bring up the same odd conundrum regardless of it being English or not?

That would make sense if it wasn't in his neck. There must be a universal language that they speak and Quill took the easy way out by getting a translator.

Or could be it's not a UT but a specific translator for a specific language which he could have gotten for a scam or some sort of job, all it says is translator not universal translator, also if they all speak common for lack of a better word a UT would be useless.
Seems odd though if they all speak a different language and with the Ravagers originally intending to give him to Ego they wouldn't have given him a translator implant, they would only do this when Yondu decided to keep him but Quill never mentioned not understanding this bunch of alien pirates for a period of time which considering that would be his first impression of them you would think he might of recalled this...all kind of odd.

Well they all speak english in the comics so there's that. I suppose you think if they had 2 and a half hours of subtitles for fake languages it would make the movie "artistic".

You could say the same thing about Krypton, Steppenwolf, the Amazon's etc... Kryptonians had been to Earth long ago. We speak Krytonian. Asgardians came to earth. God of Thunder, remember? The Kree were here earlier, engineered the Inhumans in centuries past.

He didnt understand Groot. In the prison Quill said Groot has said "I am Groot" 4 times & it didnt register as anything other than "I am Groot" Thor apparently recognized the species & learned the language while when Groot was booked into prison, the Xandarians didnt seem to know what Groot was.

They didn't have a conversation did they? He did with Nubula. But did he? Also, if any of them would know some of Earth's languages it would be Nebula the cyborg.

Maybe because the aliens are speaking one universal language. There being a local language for their species and one that everyone knows. Also, James Gunn said that they aren't speaking English in the Guardians movies.

Don't care what he says on twitter what he says there doesn't mean anything till it's in the movies, as is multiple alien races naturally speak English, Asguardians for one and who don't have UT but not only understand alien races but also don't seem to be making any effort or showing any awareness to others speaking a separate language.
The greater MCU suggest English is the universal language of the MCU, with it being possible that English is actually an import from space to earth and not the other way around.

In fact, in an almost-to-shooting draft of the first Thor there was dialog between Darcy and Fandral about how they are able to speak the same language, and Frandral said something along the lines that English originated from Asgard.

They all have to learn English just like airline pilots and soldiers assigned to NATO assignments.
Oh, and European tour guides.

I heard Thor and other the Asgardians speak a type of language that translates to anyone's native language so that they can understand them.
