That one was always my grandfather’s favorite superhero, because he connected with Billy Batson—another kid, but one who could turn into a superhero! He was one of the first superheroes to get a film adaptation, by the way, in a still pretty fun serial.

Bunch of Superman ones from then, too.

I remember her as Warbird. She was good. Black costume with the yellow lightening bolt. It was very skimpy and she would have been up for it.

Neat, No Morpho, Only Bánh mì! I should probably put this in my “where did you first learn of these characters” thread, but I learned about a lot of superheroes from my grandfather. It’s funny, he never really liked what would be considered the ‘name’ ones nowadays except for Superman—and, even so, he still preferred Captain Marvel (the Fawcett and later DC version, that is, not the one Marvel’s making a movie about now). From the Timely/Marvel ones, he always liked Namor the Sub-Mariner, whom he just remembered as “Sub-Mariner.” He said he had to read Coleridge in school at the time, so he’d try to sneak in something else mariner-related that he liked more!

Very cool! I really like the originals, too. Sub-Mariner was always great. His film presence here is long overdue. The history of the characters and companies is pretty interesting. Finding new old obscure characters is always fun, too. Hey, are you familiar with Captain Midnight? Most are not, but I feel you might be...

Hm, no, I hadn’t heard of him, No Morpho, Only Bánh mì. Is it a good series? Looks really neat—a bit like Sky Captain in that movie, which I loved. (Or The Rocketeer, another favorite. As you can guess, I like that kind of wide-eyed, “gee whiz” aspect to superheroes: Superman, Cap, that sorta thing.) I’m not really all that knowledgeable with superheroes, but I am fond of those little-known Golden Age ones. There was one—“the King,” I think? Some kind of disguise artist criminal-turned-detective, like the Saint or the Falcon. Fun idea for a character. Mike Grost has some comments here. As far as comics go, I always loved the plotting and “pop” surrealism of Golden and Silver Age comics (especially Superman); in a way, it prefigures ‘60s pop surrealism, like The Avengers (Steed and Mrs. Peel, not the superhero team) or The Wild Wild West. Right up my alley.

Right up my alley. It’s absolutely your speed. Pretty neat serial. The decoders, scopes and spy gear they came out with are pretty rad, too. (Yes, I’ve collected those, too) The Golden Age was something else. I’m not familiar with the King, but those two are fun. The Avengers and Wild Wild West are classic. Diana Rigg as Emma Peel 👏🏻 Also, check the game! Am I right? I think I see a trend.

If she looked like the comics, I'd post the costume pics. But Brie Larson looks like a bootleg Power Ranger onset, so can't say it'd change your mind.

I'm so confused about who Captain Marvel even is... There's a DC version. Then a male Marvel version. Then a female Marvel version that looks nothing like the one in the upcoming movie.
GIVE ACKBAR THE CAPTAIN MARVEL EXPLANATIONS!!!!!!!!!&!!
