I live in the UK, in the north of England. Pop is used here. Soft drink is used, but that's more of a southern thing.

Says a person with a Vanilla Ice quote. Columbus, to be specific. Where people actually go to, according to the most recent population figures.

When I was a kid it was usual softdrink or soda, sometimes cola or sodapop. Didn't hear just "pop" til sometime around my teens. "Coke" is also generic for softdrink or sodapop. Sometimes at regular "sit down" restaurants (as opposed to fast food places) if you ask for just a Coke you might get the "We don't have Coke we have Pepsi"
Someone mentioned 7-Up and Sprite. Usually Sprite is name used, but I wonder what do most people call that flavor? Lemon-Lime? Clear Soda?
Before my time (I was born mid 60s) and up til around the 50s (I guess) many of the "Soda Shops" and diners you could get different flavors of soda or "pop" since they mixed them right in the restaurant made by the "soda jerks". So they had things like "Vanilla" Coke, "Cherry" Coke and "Chocolate" Coke, years before Coca-Cola canned/bottled those different flavors.
