I know why the Coke thing is where it is, yet not sure how that works. You bringin' soft drinks to the party? Yeah, Cokes. Can you bring 7up or Sprite? Yeah, I already told you I would.

I just call it “soda”; my father, originally from Long Island but raised in Florida, insists that it’s “sodapop” [one word], though.

p.s. it would be weird for someone to refer to general pop/soda as 'Coke' as when someone says 'Coke' I automatically assume it's Coca-Cola-Classic and I would imagine many other people would do the same.
