Let's assume you didn't like where you were currently living and wanted to move to another state. Which one would it be, and where (what city, or part of that state)?

Well if i was the move from Norway to the United States, i would probably move to one of the New England states, probably Massachusetts and to Boston.

I love Vermont like crazy but canβt stand its politicsβso maybe New Hampshire? Maybe Rockingham County, outside of Portsmouth. I also love the North Shore here in Massachusetts; I love Marblehead. In spite of politics, my heartβs still in New England.

Tough choice because there are a number of places I love. I'll give you my top five instead:
(1) Florida -- Miami. That would be a "move back to" for me. I usually spend about a month per year there as it is. I miss family, I miss many friends who still live there, I miss being able to see my favorite teams whenever I want to, and I miss a bunch of other stuff, too (including easy one or two day trips to Disney World--I love Disney).
(2) Nevada - Vegas. Love that city, and I love the surrounding area + its proximity to a bunch of other both natural areas and cities, including LA and Phoenix.
(3) Utah - either St. George or Moab. Both are great small towns, and both are close to lots of natural areas I love. St. George, of course, is also very close to Vegas. I like Salt Lake City a lot, too, but all things being equal, I'd probably choose to live in either St. George or Moab first.
(4) Wyoming - either the Cody area, Jackson Hole or the more rural area just north of Cody. Obviously from the above I'm a big fan of deserts, wide open spaces, "desolate" areas, etc. I've had a deep-seated love of Wyoming ever since I first visited it. Of course, the towns I mentioned are also close to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. And it's not too far of a drive from other places I love, including:
(5) Idaho - either Idaho Falls or Pocatello. I've spent a lot of time in Idaho Falls, partially because I dated a woman who lived there (I was traveling a lot, but for awhile I would often go stay with her for a month or so when I had a break from traveling). Idaho Falls is just on the other side of Yellowstone, plus it's close to great places like Craters of the Moon National Monument, etc.
Pretty much any western state is some place I'd seriously consider moving to. I don't know if I'd be able to handle the winters in northern Wyoming or even Idaho Falls very well, but I'd give it a shot. Likewise, summers in Vegas, or someplace like Phoenix or Albuquerque, etc. might be difficult to get used to, but I can handle dry heat much easier than humid heat, and I lived for many years in South Florida and I can deal with it well enough.
Weather-wise, in the U.S., the Pacific coast from around the San Francisco area north would be my ideal, and I like those areas a lot, too, but I prefer the wide-open spaces, desert landscapes, etc. And at that, I wouldn't mind living in parts of the Dakotas or Nebraska, either. (Though aside from my top five, I'd choose to live in AZ, NM, CO, MT, CA, OR or WA before the plains states.) I'd also love to live in Southeastern Alaska for a bit--that is, the islands off the coast of British Columbia--Juneau, Ketchikan, etc., though I don't think I'd want to be there long term. Maybe just a handful of years. I think I'd start to feel too isolated long term, although maybe not.

Many places.
Arizona: Tuscon, Scottsdale, Tombstone
Florida
Seattle outskirts of the city
If it weren't for the rude homeless (like in your face rude) San Antonio, Texas
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Branson, Missouri
Abroad: London. In the city.

Arizona: Tuscon, Scottsdale, Tombstone You got something against living in Fountain Hills? well, as i said before with the 'worst state' thread, i think it is fair to vote for a state you have actually been to. tuscon, Scottsdale and tombstone are the areas in Arizona i have been to. Scottsdale is too cute for words, my utmost favorite tv show took place on location at tanque verde guest ranch in tuscon. tombstone. yeah, I'm your huckleberry.

I can move to any state I want.
There are many states I would not want to live in, mostly amongst the bigots in the south.
But St. Louis, MO is fine for me.
And I very much DON'T WANT TO MOVE AGAIN. I'm 68, and just too old to put in the effort, change the address on everything I'm in volved in financially, former conpany related, selling the condo, and all the other things involved in moving.
Unless something drastic happens, I'm at home, sweet home.

Even moving to, say, the other side of the current city or town they're in could be a major hassle for a lot of people.

Honest to god, in the final stages of my last move (2009), my girlfriend thought I was having a heart attack. It was a 6 block move.
