I think I hated Jaime Lannister a lot from when I first saw him till about 2017. But I finally got over my hatred for Jaime. I think life was not that easy for him and he didn't get the respect and treatment that he deserved. He wanted to be known as brave but this whole drama involving infidelity toward his king (for whom he was the sworn protector) gave him a bad name. Remember that the title of "kingslayer" is used in a very offensive sense in the world of Westeros. Jaime also never settled in his love life. The feeling that he had to hide his love would have always feel him low. Also, Robert Baratheon mistreated his sister and gave literally no respect to him. All these things took toll on this guy.
I also hated Sansa with a passion because I am an Arya fan. Lol at all the fights I have had with Sansa fans over the years. But just as in case of Jaime, I finally realised that Sansa was not a horrible person like I supposed she was. I don't hate her any more.
Please share your thoughts about characters whom you didn't like initially but whom you started liking after some time. In another thread I will talk about characters I first liked but now dislike.

Speaking of show only...
Sansa...easily the biggest turnaround. I disliked her initially just like everyone else, although I never hated her as much in the show as I did in the book. Because they threw in some rebellious moments early on that made her more likeable. Like her ‘almost’ decision to push Joffrey off the wall at the end of season 1. By now tho I’d be angry if she died and I want her to succeed in at least some way. I think her main drive now is just bringing Winterfell back to what it once was for the North and I’m ok with that.
Theon...Theon is still frustrating more often than not but he’s not a douche like he was in season 1-2. I guess being tortured for god knows how long will do that to you. But mostly I feel he’s paid his dues and is a mostly alright guy now.
Melisandre...I still cannot trust a god that demands sacrifice by fire but I think Mel has realized her faults in her assumption regarding her Lord. Not full blown doubt but at least misreadinggs to the point that she’s not as confident in anything anymore. To that end I’m finding her more likeable.

There's no point scratching my head any further, there aren't any. I don't readily dislike characters so when I do it tends to be definitive because it is based on core characteristics, not on passing actions or on a few sentences. I see many run to love or hate based on first impressions or prejudices then changing their mind as the fools they are. I disliked Theon when he started to float in the wind in S2E02 or S2E03 and never changed my mind since. He was not very likeable before that but I was simply waiting to see what would become of him. I remained fairly neutral on his account. The same went for most characters in Season 1. I only started taking side by the 6th episode, when Ned Stark started to behave like an idiot.
Some disappointed me late in the show, but that's not the point of this thread.

Ok, after reflection, I'll grant King Robert some sort of posthumous redemption:

I remember way back in 2015 in one of my threads comparing Samwise Gamgee and Samwell Tarly, you said that you failed to like Samwell for I don't remember what reasons. Are you still not very keen on Samwell character?
I know Melisandre committed a heinous act of child Sacrifice. I am not utilitarian to a great degree so do not believe in an action even if it is done for greater good. So even if child sacrifice actually worked I wouldn't have supported Melisandre. That said, I do not blame Meli for killing Renly. He was not fit to be king. I have generally liked Meli and think she is not as bad as many people think.

IMO he was weak from inside but could never tell that to himself. He fought bravely for Robb Stark but when we went back to home he could convince his father. He was very fond of Robb and yet the shame of being kept hostage by Starks for years got the worst of him. He never wanted to do what his father asked him to do. But he had to prove himself as an ironborn. Poor fellow. I hope he does some brave act in the last season.
As for changing opinions. I think first impressions are not good but one should not be too adamant about anything. Some degree of flexibility is needed.

Theon has not changed. He has remained a pitiful sucker for the approval of others, so my opinion of him has remained.

I still don’t care much for Samwell. He’s not unlike able in a normal sense...he just doesn’t fit this world. And I find his storylines to be a bit too much on the boring side.

I still don’t care much for Samwell. He’s not unlikeable in a normal sense...he just doesn’t fit this world. And I find his storylines to be a bit too much on the boring side. Sam is one of several such cases, which is not a judgement of the portrayed personality but of the character itself as a function in the story. In other words, he is badly written. His statement to Jon about Gilly in S2E02, "I can't steal her, she's a person, not a goat" is one of the most inept in the show. There is no reason to think anyone would have that sort of thought in this world. Then Sam doesn't seem to know if he is smart or an idiot. He can read all the books in Aemon's library but when Stannis tells him about dragonglass on Dragonstone, he completely ignores it. He must be the only stupid nerd in the history of fiction.

Probably all the Lannisters lol I mean Jamie had the biggest change I think , and at times when writers allowed cersei showed some vulnerability especially where her children are concerned , I think if cersei was allowed to marry who she wanted and be happy she would be a different person ,another one for me would be THEON , wow what a transformation from their Greyjoy to reek back to Theon I hated him for all he did to the Starks and began rooting for him to escape Ramsey's torture when he helped Sansa escaped I knew he was redemed , Sansa in first season I thought sometimes came off selfish but she was only 13 and at that age you just care what you want I think it was awful all the backlash plain nasty backlash she got from fans was uncalled for ,my mind is kinda blank right now lol I bet there are more characters I disliked and like now ..oh Dany I can say I hate her now but I loved loved her 1-3 seasons after that she lost me , it's just my personally believe she is the mad one and if not her actions are .

May be because I have no attachment to her character and find the woman who portrays her as totally unattractive.
Theon was a good archer and for that reason I became his fan early on. He also fought bravely in the war but he was very conscious of the fact that he was a captive at Starks. I felt a lot of pity for him when he changed his mind because of pressure by his family. I hope he fights bravely against Euron.

There's still an actual rental store near me, but tv show rentals are overpriced. I'll have to pay up though at some point.

I have always felt unattracted to Dany. At least I used to hate Sansa and she brought some emotion in me. About Dany I am completely indifferent. May be because I have no attachment to her character and find the woman who portrays her as totally unattractive. That's the way it often works S1 Daenerys was a bit of a problem for me because she looked so much like someone I knew and appreciated… but that girl was blonde and had none of the disgraceful mentality of the lizard bitch. So I guess I could never have liked Daenerys but she really started to get on my nerves by Season 3.

I’ve always found Emilia Clarke beautiful. I think she’s even more so off screen when she’s free to laugh and smile. Dany the character has always been too much of a stick in the mud.
