Every once and while I try to rewatch Man of Steel. I can get over the script problems, the gratuitous prologue, the thin characterization, the Michael Bay action, and the colorless desaturated look...
But I just can't get over the shaky cam. And I don't just mean in the action scenes. The whole damn movie is shaking!
Clark and Pa are just sitting on the back of a truck discussing life... SHAKE IT! Jor El is debating politics with the Krypton Council... SHAKE IT!! Clark is sitting in an interrogation room with Amy Adams... SHAKE IT UP!!! Clark is sitting in church discussing an ethical conundrum with a priest... SHAKE IT UP AND SHAKE IT GOOD!!!!!@!!
It is unwatchable.
GIVE SNYDER THE TRIPOD!!!!!@!!!

It's not shaky cam, it's just handheld, no dollies or steadicam

I hate shaky cam and the misuse of that technique really shows how untalented some directors really are.

The camera was the least of the reasons why the film was unwatchable, but it is annoyingly obtrusive. WWE used to do the same thing with The Shield's matches.

Not to mention, the overuse of the "snap zoom" camera technique was really annoying.

I hate shaky cam and the misuse of that technique really shows how untalented some directors really are. The thing is though I think Snyder can be a masterful director- visually at least. Watchmen is a beautifully directed film. That's the Snyder I wanted for MoS. Instead I got The Blair Witch project featuring Superman. SHAKE IT UP!

Not to mention, the overuse of the "snap zoom" camera technique was really annoying. Extremely annoying! Especially since it was usually done in FX shots which made it feel so artificial. ZOOM IT IN AND SHAKE IT UP!

It's a complaint I had too. Not that I like it at all, I get why they'd do shakey cam for a battle scene. Emulate the confusion and whatever. Everyone was doing that at the time. But just scenes with dialogue? That got annoying.

To make things feel "real" I think, but Snyder is such an unoriginal filmmaker he doesn't really justify the ideas he uses.

It's not shaky cam, it's just handheld, no dollies or steadicam I think Snyder was asked if it was going to be stylized like his other movies; lots of slo-mo and such. He said that it would be like a documentary compared to the others (300 and Watchmen). Maybe that handheld and snap zoom was what he meant.

I think that's the only time it should be used for the entire movie really. When the camera is suppose to be the HUD or eyes of a person.

Shaky cam in general is annoying. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to scream "LOCK THE FUCKING CAMERA!!!" when watching films, especially action films, in theaters.

I never saw the film in 3D or IMAX, but was it a nauseating experience in either of those formats?
