There was a television show called Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I was about 10 or 12 years old when this particular episode aired. Several episodes of the series had a "mad scientist" of some kind or other. This particular episode had one that turned fish into large walking amphibious creatures that would do whatever they were told. An electronic transmitter was used. The receiver was wired into the monster's nervous system. That's more information than you need. The simple point here is the monster did whatever it was told without question.
As you might guess the monster got loose and was making all sorts of trouble on the submarine when one of the men aboard got the transmitter and shouted into it, "Die, die ..." And the monster died.
That story has stayed in my memory since then while lots of other "memorable" television of that time faded away.

Hmmm....
I watched a few episodes of that show and thought, this is very silly. I much prefer the movie when Seaview has to nuke the Van Allen belt to stop it burning...before then, they fight a giant squid, stumble into a minefield, get attacked by a random hostile sub whose crew are too stupid to understand the phrase "crush depth". A saboteur falls into a shark tank....on a missile sub...why was there a shark tank?
😵
Hmmm.... Episodes that stuck out most from this stuff Prog watched as a kid:
Star Trek -The Enterprise goes one-on-one with a Romulan Bird of Prey.
Knight Rider -KITT goes psycho when under the control of villains.
Airwolf -A guy with a revolver is not going to outmatch a supersonic stealth chopper with machine guns, cannons and several missiles. But the dumb fuck tries. And Airwolf blows him to tiny bits.
V -From the first miniseries, when Donovan is discovered on the L.A. mothership by a Visitor. We see his real lizard eyes, and his face goes all contorted when he tries to use his venomous tongue to strike Donovan. Mike manages to rip the dude's fake face off, exposing his real reptilian features. -In the second miniseries, episode 2 climaxes with Robin giving birth to alien hybrid babies. The first seems human until it hisses and shows its forked tongue. Then the other one emerges, reptilian but with human eyes.
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century -Buck gets the scantily clad bad space princess to badly dance to disco-style music with him.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe -Skeletor kidnaps some kids on Christmas!!! But shows even he has lines he won't cross when he helps the kids get through freezing conditions. The big girls blouse!
Thundercats -Lion-O had to go through some rite to prove he's the right leader or some shit. Anyway, he has to defeat his colleagues in trials then kick Mumm-Ra's ass. Of course, it left things open hinting Mumm-Ra was still breathing.
The Real Ghostbusters -One surprisingly sad one when a friendly ghost sacrificed himself by helping the guys trap a demonic foe at great cost to himself.
Transformers -Optimus is resurrected after his 1986 movie death!

I remember wondering what he thought about it. I didn't ask though. I couldn't think how to ask. I just didn't say anything. He didn't say anything. He knew I saw it and I knew he saw it, but neither said anything. Neither of us mentioned it later either. Another interesting episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea had an Ames Room in it. You might already know what that is, if not you can learn what it is on the internet.

For me:
RAWHIDE-Incident of the Haunted Hills. Five men from the train combine with 4 soldiers to speak with a hermitic tribe of Indians. One of the men is tied to a geyser by the Indians, and killed when it erupts. It was definitely their master piece episode of action
BATMAN-Robin is falling from a skyscraper, hands tied behind his back, and Batman throws down the lifeline, which Robin catches with his teeth, and Batman pulls him up, and while he does this, Batman says "Now, Robin, you understand why I had you brush your teeth every day all your life".
Since then, I brush my teeth every day.
MASH: The episode where the young medic has Amnesia and is hypnotized into remembering the traumatic event.
GUNSMOKE: An old pool legend in town with his daughter and her husband is harassed into a pool playing duel by a young pool player, but in the final scene, the characters do a turnabout in a heart warming way.
JOHNNY QUEST-One of the series monsters is unseen, and the effects make you feel danger all the way, and they have to cover the monster with some goo in order to see it. Scariest thing ever on TV is this episode.

I'm pretty sure the episode you're describing is "The Menfish." Season 2 Episode 24. I also seem to remember that it was the only episode in which Richard Basehart did not appear. For reasons still unknown to me he was replaced by Gary Merrill for that episode. I guess the most memorable ending to a TV episode I ever saw was on Mannix. He was hired to find out if a reclusive millionaire was being held against his will in his house. Mannix is thwarted by security throughout the episode but at the end he breaks in with the millionaire's security men chasing him, just a few steps behind him, and he opens the door to find.........I'm not gonna tell ya.

The show sucked. It couldn't hold a candle to Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

It was like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, the Next Generation. They didn't have enough story lines. The Iron Curtain was down, the Cold War was virtually over. Alien invasions were already overdone on Voyage ... The episode that stands out from my memory is the one where they thought they discovered a new rock that glowed in the dark, but it was the droppings of sea life that ate other sea life that glowed in the dark. Yeah, big cleanup when it thawed. On Seaquest DSV they were learning to communicate with a dolphin in its own language. That was a really big deal in actual, popular science of the time as was communicating with chimpanzees in human sign language. They couldn't hold it at that level though. They named the dolphin "Darwin," and they probably shouldn't have done that. It gave them away.

Yes, it was globalist indoctrination, and a bit heavy-handed at that, and a waste of Roy Scheider's talent. Gratefully the series was swept under the rug after one season or less. Give me the Cold War-era Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea any day, despite its failings, which in fairness I must say were numerous.

Now I can remember the opening (or was it closing?) sequence where a guy in a wheelchair has a pterodactyl named Turok and one of them falls into a lava pit, then the other, something, something. Johnny had a friend who was from India.
