goz Because only your body dies, not your soul(which is you) which is eternal. basically ones soul animates/gives life to ones body. There is no such thing as a soul. We have a consciousness of self identity which is centred in the neurophysics and chemistry of the brain, which simply ceases once the brain dies.

as in cease to exist? ; if that's what your asking, then NO, as a persons soul is immortal. basically after one passes from this physical life here on earth you got but two ultimate ends... heaven(good) or hell(bad). trust me, you want to avoid hell like the plague as it's forever as those who end up in hell basically put themselves there by rejecting Jesus Christ through sin etc. basically they say all of the pain one could possibly experience in this life is nothing in comparison to hell and that's not a exaggeration either. Directly contradicted by the Bible itself, which clearly says the soul can die, and be destroyed.

There is no such thing as a soul. We have a consciousness of self identity which is centred in the neurophysics and chemistry of the brain, which simply ceases once the brain dies. Prove it. She really doesn’t have to. She’s expressing an opinion that is no more or less valid than the alternative opinion that there is life after death (of which you cannot prove). So that’s kind of a wash! At the end of the day, nobody knows what happens after death, and anyone who says otherwise is a liar and a fool. As far as scientific evidence goes, there is more evidence to suggest that consciousness ceases after brain death, than there is to support that it survives.

Directly contradicted by the Bible itself, which clearly says the soul can die, and be destroyed. The Count of Clearly strikes again! Ezekiel 18:20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Please feel free to contradict or dispute anything here you find unclear.

She claimed the soul doesn't exist. Let her prove it doesn't exist. While she's at it, let her try to prove the nonexistence of anything. This one has tried so many times it isn't even funny anymore.

Burden of proof is always on the one making the affirmative claim. Let him prove the soul’s existence first. And if he cannot, there is no reason to disprove it, as we have no reason to believe in it in the first place.

In my way of thinking, that "consciousness of self identity" could be called a soul, or personality, if a being is sentient. Case in point: my pets. I call them my sweet little souls, a kind of shorthand for recognizing their living being. But, yes, that dies when the brain does. And there is not an ounce of religious belief in there.

There is no such thing as a soul. We have a consciousness of self identity which is centred in the neurophysics and chemistry of the brain, which simply ceases once the brain dies. Prove it. In a 'normal death' the brain takes some time to die if breathing and heartbeat cease. This explains near death experiences' which are physiological and chemical changes in the brain consciousness, yet the 'vital signs' are externally revived and hence people can survive this. They cannot however survive brain death, which means that a person with brain death is legally and clinically dead.'Brain death is not the same as coma, because someone in a coma is unconscious but still alive. Brain death occurs when a critically ill patient dies sometime after being placed on life support. This situation can occur after, for example, a heart attack or stroke. The heart continues to beat while the ventilator delivers oxygen to the lungs (the heart can initiate its own beating without nerve impulses from the brain) but, despite the beating heart and warm skin, the person is dead. Since the brain has stopped working, the person won’t breathe if the ventilator is switched off. Signs of brain death Some of the signs of brain death include: The pupils don’t respond to light. The person shows no reaction to pain. The eyes don’t blink when the eye surface is touched (corneal reflex). The eyes don’t move when the head is moved (oculocephalic reflex). The eyes don’t move when ice water is poured into the ear (oculo-vestibular reflex). There is no gagging reflex when the back of the throat is touched. The person doesn’t breathe when the ventilator is switched off. An electroencephalogram test shows no brain activity at all. ' Since the seat of consciousness, thought, personality, understanding and everything that makes us alive is seated in the brain, then it follows that ALL of this dies when the brain dies. There is no evidence of any further consciousness being possible since the responsible mechanisms die and degrade after the death occurs of both brain and circulatory systems. Prove otherwise.

For someone claiming to have been a Christian once, shouldn't you already know the answer to that one? It's in Genesis, and rather early in the book as I recall.
