After Valerie Harper had a falling out with her producers and show runners, she was off the program and her character was killed off in a car crash (shades of John Amos's James Evans Senior character on Good Times).
The show Valerie then became Valerie's Family and finally The Hogan Family.

Roseanne overdoses on opioids; Dan tries to cope with the help of Jackie, who eventually moves in and has a romantic relationship with him (you know she always wanted him). That would explain the addition of his laughter in the opening credits; he finally gets the last laugh.

I never watched "Valerie" or "Valerie's Family" but I wonder how much of the audience actually continued with the show after killing off the character.

That sounds depressing. There was already something depressing about the entire thing. Sure, I liked it and got a few laughs but there was something that wasn't quite right with this reincarnation. They were trying to recapture something that ended a long time ago. I hope they just let it end.

I think it would have just left a dark cloud over the show. Even if they bumped her off with an od or something, as much as I don't think she deserves sympathy, even that seems in bad taste. The entire situation was unpleasant.

Could’ve just had a running gag where anytime anyone asks where she is someone replies ‘oh she’s upstairs engaging in flame wars on Twitter.’ And keep that gag updated based on what the real Roseanne is actually commenting on.

The show Valerie then became Valerie's Family and finally The Hogan Family. You forget that Valerie was in a money dispute and (I kid you not) was jealous of Jason Bateman's success. The two senarios are entirely different. Roseanne showed everyone else her true colors and had her ass handed to her. That should have been done 28 years ago!

It would be weird not to have her on the show with her name in the title.
Also, does she own the show? If she does I don't think that would happen anyway.

Anyone think Roseanne did this on purpose? I was reading (and I believe it was Tom Arnold's opinion...so take it with a grain of salt) that Roseanne was unhappy that she didn't have complete creative control over the show and maybe she sabotaged herself knowing it would happen eventually. I mean I can almost believe it. Something about her this time around just didn't seem right. And to be honest, she doesn't seem too upset over the entire thing from what I've read. I'd expect more outrage from her given she has such a big mouth anyway.

It just seems weird to write her out of the show after all these years. I get wanting to keep the cast and crew working together. I think the best way to go would just to be develop a brand new sitcom with the same team.

She wants to personally call everyone she has offended over this and apologize. Bs. This was deliberate and this is not the first time she has shown her racist colors.
