"Death by blaster fire is too good for them. Let's make this hurt!"
That's the line Captain Phasma uttered when she decided to have Finn and Rose executed. Then 2 Stormtroopers emerged with what looked like "laser ribbon axes". It all looks so cool and sounds so ominous! (Okay I was being semi-sarcastic in that last sentence, but on a surface level it's true). Here's the thing though...
Execution by beheading - while appearing gruesome - is actually one of the least painful ways to die because it severs the head from all of the pain-sensing nerves of the body. Whereas blaster fire would guarantee some very painful body trauma for at least a short while. Anyone with a basic knowledge of this stuff would know this... if you stopped and thought about it for a second! But that's the type of writing that permeates this trilogy. People who like and defend the writing love the superficial constructs of it, and it's contrived formulas. Every time you introduce any depth, it's exposed. It's awful, paper-thin writing.
I chuckle at that line... like so much of the other writing.
