Bane is my favorite super villain of the decade, but Thanos is the best MCU villain and also one of the best super villains in recent years.

That's why Thanos isn't a great villain. Villains aren't supposed to stay true to their word. Villains have no code of honor and can't be trusted to keep their word. That's why they're villains. That's not true at all, the Predator having a code of honour is a big part of that character. In Predator 2 it chose not to kill a woman because she was pregnant. Jigsaw from Saw is honourable because he genuinely does let people go if they can successfully get through his traps. The Flash has a villainous group called The Rogues who have a rule against killing innocent people who aren't involved. Even someone like Michael Myers has been shown to not kill children. So again a very common villain type. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NobleDemon

The best, are ones where you can see their side of the story and have sympathy for their actions. Banes motivation isnt the most clear. Thanos, whilst they gave some explanation, isnt very believable or sympathetic either. He wants to destroy half the universe because....reasons. If they had given us his true backstory of being a deviant who was outcast or his involvement with Lady Death then it would have provided us with a more reasonable motivation for his plan.
That said, Loki, Zod and Magneto are the best villains since 2010. You can understand their actions to a certain degree. Not with Thanos, although he is presented as a good imposing threat like Bane.

No. BANE was the best villain without a reasonable doubt. He is criminally underrated because of Ledgers's Joker.
Magneto in First Class is up there, but you can query if this is not rather an anti-hero character only becoming a villain in the end.
Both are closely followed by Zod in MoS who was the best motivated and psychotically human villain.
Thanos is the best MCU villain by far, but in the end he is an inconsistently portrayed CGI-blob with a fallacious plan who has to deal with dialogue like "I'm gonna blow that nutsack of a chin right off your face". In the end you can only lose with that.
Loki is not a villain anymore, Fragglerock reduced him and his schemings to a rougish side kick who is supporting the hero - grossly violating and trivializing the epic mythology source material and even previous films.

He only left Tony Stark alive because he's apparently true to his word. That's why Thanos isn't a great villain. Villains aren't supposed to stay true to their word. Villains have no code of honor and can't be trusted to keep their word. That's why they're villains. Remorseful villains are plentiful. There's thousands listed here. villains.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Remorseful Thanos: 1. Shows remorse for killing. 2. Shows mercy. 3. Stays true to his word. That is not a great villain. Great villains don't do all those things. Jesus, look at you moving goal posts

But Zod didn't show any mercy or remorse for those he killed. Thanos showed mercy to Tony Stark and showed remorse for killing Gamora. Great villains have nor mercy or remorse. But he wasn't doing it out of any malice, he wasn't an evil person. You forget that after Superman destroyed the World Engine and destroyed the embryo pods in the scout ship, Zod knew he had lost and would never be able to achieve his mission of recreating a New Krypton. So there was no reason to try to kill that innocent family other than pure malice. But that's what Zod did because that's what great villains do. Great villains have no mercy and no remorse. That's what separates heroes from villains. Great villains have no regard for innocent lives and have no remorse or mercy. Zod had no remorse for any of the people he killed and no hesitation or remorse in trying to kill an innocent family even after he knew he would never be able to recreate New Krypton. Heroes have remorse. Superman had remorse for having to kill Zod. Thanos not only showed remorse but also showed mercy for Tony Stark so Thanos isn't a great villain. And Steve Rogers had no remorse for his team causing the deaths of many innocent people (if he had any ounce of remorse, he would've signed the Accords) so Steve Rogers isn't a great hero. MCU just doesn't understand what makes a hero and what makes a villain. Great villains don't show remorse or mercy. And heroes aren't supposed to put their own selfish agendas and selfish wishes above the greater good, like many of MCU's so-called "heroes" did in Infinity War. MCU fans make the excuse that it was hard for them to kill someone they loved or let someone they loved die. But Captain Kirk faced the exact same choice in Star Trek and put the greater good above his own wishes. And Logan faced the exact same choice in X-Men: The Last Stand and put the greater good above his own wishes. It's just MCU's so-called "heroes" who are too selfish to put the greater good above their own selfish agendas and selfish wishes. That's 1 of the reasons why I rate MCU movies so low. Because the genre is "superhero" movies, but MCU movies don't seem to have any real superheroes.

Good call, Trump is easily the best villain of the last ten years. Trump may be a villain but Trump did save us from an even bigger evil - Hillary Clinton!

Hell you have two types of Villains in The Dark Knight. The Agent of Chaos Joker (who actually had a lot of plans to get everything done) and the Sympathetic Villain Two Face.

I tend to like layered villains and heroes. I stopped liking black and white villains and heroes when I was a teenager.

Unpopular opinion:
I think Thanos and General Zod are both great and sympathetic villains;

Great villains don't do all those things. 1. He was only remorseful about Gamora's death. Every one else he had no problem killing. 2. He wasn't completely merciful. He tortured and killed to collect the stones. 3. He spared Stark because of two reasons: He was given the time Stone, which was his only goal on Titan and he had respect for Tony. He did seem like he had a code of honor, which I didn't see it as a bad thing honestly. Made me liked him even more! He is a great villain. I rooted for him the entire time.

Zod sucked asshole juice. Superman and Johnathan Kent were better villains. Zod was a real threat and had great dialogue which involved no omelette jokes to lower his imposing authority. That makes him better than every MCU villain except Loki.

I think a few omelette jokes may have made that garbage fire of a movie a lot more bearable, and may have took my mind off Superman killing everyone.

Agreed, I was surprised by how one-note Zod was in that film. They got a great actor like Michael Shannon and gave him nothing to do but shout and scowl.
