As a fan of pro wrestling, how do you feel when people make fun of wrestling for being scripted, choreographed, fake, etc., claim that wrestling appeals to the "lowest common denominator", stereotype wrestling fans as dumb people, etc.? Even though pro wrestling is loved by many, it always has, and still has, a stigma attached to it.

After 30+ years, I don't feel anything. I've heard it all. It really doesn't bother me.

Even though pro wrestling is loved by many, it always has, and still has, a stigma attached to it. I used to like it when I was a kid. Between 1991-2002 or so. I remember watching Hulk Hogan and Macho Man in the WWF, then got really into WCW with Sting, and Flair, and Hogan, and N.W.O. etc.. Even got into the Attitude Era with Stone Cold and The Rock... right around the time WWF bought WCW and that 'invasion' angle started. I watched WrestleMania X8 with the Rock and Hogan, that was about the time I got out of it. I was right between 16 and 17 years old.
However, I don't see what the big deal is. Movies and TV shows are scripted. Wrestling is just like a live soap opera with fights. What's the difference in someone watching Rocky movies? It's scripted, the fights are fake. Same with Die Hard, or Terminator. I just say, "It's the same as watching live action films as opposed to previously taped action films.
I don't like it now, I don't know why, but I don't fault people who do.

The only thing that can sometimes get annoying is when people are being purposefully ignorant in regards to it. First off, it's not fake. It's scripted. It's like saying the work that a stunt man does in movies isn't dangerous at all and it's just marked up as "fake". Yes, there are set pieces just like movies and there are props but I'd honestly just love for these purposely ignorant people to get into a ring and take a few moves and get hit with a kendo stick and a steal chair and then try and say how "fake" it is.
Outside of random acts of that, I rarely pay anybody mind in terms of their opinions on something I like.

I don't care, normally people are just trying to be mean for some reason. Heck I ran into some people who felt that it was real, the other day. And you know what I was happy to see them speaking about it like I use to when I was a kid. I don't know why anyone would try to take away another person's joy.

Well, growing up I didn't really get much of that. That was before it was exposed and long before the internet. So people knew at least some of it was a work but didn't know how much of it or how things were done. So that stigma changed over the years. Then years later the standard line would be "why do you watch it if you know it's fake". But that's pretty much it

It's annoying as hell and you get it a lot where I live, here in U K. People would rather watch footballers rolling around in the grass when they never got touched. But I'm better at ignoring it nowadays. I loved wrestling all my life and I'm a wrestling fan for life. Wrestling remains popular in Lancashire.
But hey, the quote in my profile by author John Irving - he was a wrestler, and I urge anyone curious to check out his specific wrestling masterpiece (though it's always present in his novels as a discipline), 'The 158 Pound Marriage' (1973).
"Wrestling taught me some valuable lessons ... I always figured I could hold my own against the best in the world. It made me tough. Many times, I drew on that strength. It's an inappropriate crutch perhaps, but that's the way I'm made."
- Norman Borlaug
Superior in-ring technicians like Christian, Alberto Del Rio, and Chris Jericho will never be beat and deserve credit for all the work they put in ...

The insults about wrestling being fake don't even make sense anymore. The product has been presented as "sports entertainment" for years now, not trying to pass itself off as a legit sport, and all fans are well aware that outcomes are predetermined. Nobody complains about other entertainment such as movies being "fake."
Sure, pro-wrestling doesn't always attract the brightest people, but the same could be said of legit sports such as NFL. Generalizing people based on their entertainment preferences is kind of lame anyway.

I didn't care what ppl thought. My best answer was a soap opera with stunt ppl. Then again, not many ppl were calling the product silly back in the late 90's.
