I agree with Cdull, I still cant believe theres an actual dc streaming service. I love DC as well as Marvel but it's just too small a world for it to be successful, even if they werent competing with Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus and other streaming services. I hope it makes a reasonable amount of money, so I can still view Titans and the upcoming Doom Patrol. It'd be a shame if Titans was cancelled. Then again Netflix might pick it up if they think it's lucrative enough but thats not a guarantee.
I mean I get they want in on the action re streaming but this certain venture might not yield a good return

Apologies, right away Sir. I agree with you Obi-Wan of the house Kenobi, first of his name, the rebel, general of the clone army, master of both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, adventurer of the immense black ocean, keeper of the peace, member of the Jedi high council, only hope to Princess Leia, saviour of Naboo, projector of the force spirit, clairvoyant of the high ground, Jedi antagonist of Darth Vader and wielder of the blue lightsaber.

Say, did you know Cindy Moon who is Silk was in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: infinity War? Yes. I did but she wasn't Silk in that movie which was kinda like only having Gwen Stacy and not SpiderGwen. From the look of things Sony has control over Silk or the Silk name and costume since she was not only confirmed to be getting her own movie but she was announced to be in the 'SpiderGwen' animated movie along with Spider Woman. I am not sure how they are working things but it also seems kinda coincidental they had the Prowler but he wasn't the Prowler or wore the costume.

There appears to be a number of small companies I have never even heard of that are getting or already have their own streaming services now and I think if they can pull off having them Time Warner of all companies should be able to with their money. They need to get more content on it though. There are heaps of DC TV Shows I have heard aren't on it yet and 'Smallville' is one they must have since it is one of their biggest and most popular TV shows. They should also work with the CW Network to have repeats of all the 'Arrowverse' shows on it like the WWE Network has with old episodes of Raw and Smackdown and they should go all the way back to the 40s with the movies of 'Superman and the Mole Men' and 'Batman & Robin' (1949). A lot of people didn't think WWE could pull off having their own network but they have done it so stay positive.

Thing with the DC service is needing to wait out other deals and/or figuring out the ownership issues of certain content, Batman & Robin 49 for example wasmt a WB production, it was release by Columbia, DC was only acquired by WB 18 years later, so god knows if they own the rights to anything prior to that or negotiated prior to that, hell even afterwards you just don't know who owns what sometimes.
WWE by comparison is easy they brought the rights to everyone else's stuff, hence why non WWE programming is on the WWE network, but unlike WWE or some other streaming services WB does own a lot of their content, but also what they have licensed out can and will likely pay for a lot of the expenses for their service, just like Netflix basically paid for the production of the 1st season of Discovery for CBS.

You have a good point there but wouldn't the rights of older movies like 'Batman & Robin 1949' revert back to DC since they own the characters unless the people who owns them keeps renewing them which would be weird since they haven't re-released the movie in any type of Special Edition format and I have never seen it aired on TV. Who even owns 'Superman vs the Mole Man' now? That was made back in 1951 and just like the 'Batman & Robin' movie I don't see it sold anywhere or aired on TV. From what I have just heard Warner Bros are looking to create another streaming service for their other shows now too and they are looking to take a number of their shows off Netflix and if the DC Universe ever struggles they will probably merge the two of them together.

The rights to the characters would revert, not the films themselves, Lucasfilm owns the rights to the story and characters from ANH, but FOX own the rights to the original cinematic cut of the film, and it may just depend on the specific contracts, some deals are made in perpetuity, others have time limits, I alweays go back to this when Kevin Smith sold Clerks to Miramax he sold the rights to the IP in the US to them in perpetuity, so unless he brought the rights back that's not his to use in America ever again without Miramax or whoeven now owns the IP's ok, with the exception of Jay & Silent Bob, but Smith get's the rights back in the UK this year as that deal was only for 25 years in the UK and Europe I believe.
But yeah no one redoes a bunch of that old stuff but that also means theres no real incentive to buy it either, if there was a substancial market for that stuff the owners of the films would be releasing them, but there isn't and DC probably aren't going to want to waste the time, money or resources reaquiring such things for so little pay off, WWE did that stuff because they wanted the biggest library available for home video and now the network, plus they were paying rather cheap amounts for hundreds of hours of content.
Then theres the issue of remastering that stuff, which is even with WWE who have like 150,000 hours in their library not all of that at one point I heard less than 25% of that was fit to air due to condition, and other rights issues such as music rights and stuff, it's all a lot more complicated than we would assume.

Thanks for telling me that Dazz. I am just surprised Fox still own anything to do with ‘Star Wars’ after all these years when you look at how successful the ‘Star Wars’ franchise has been and George Lucas and Lucasfilm would most likely have lots of money. Do the rights to the original cinematic cut of the movie go to Disney after the Disney Fox merger is finished or was that one of the things Fox chose to keep ‘cause I recently read Disney wouldn’t be getting everything and I am confused over what they won’t be getting ‘cause I thought they purchased the whole thing. Will they be getting The Simpsons and Newscorp which own Foxtel here and many channels like Fox Sports, Fox 8, Fox Classics, FX, Fox News and National Geographic which I read Fox owns 73 percent of or not and if so does this mean it is going to change Foxtel and all the channels we have on it here in Australia?
That is strange how the rights of ‘Jay & Silent Bob’ work with Kevin Smith getting the rights back only in the UK and not America and I assumed there would have been one big deal for all of the countries in the world with characters like that and do they do that type of thing with every movie or only for a few unique ones and do they do it with TV shows too? If that is the case with Jay and Silent Bob does that mean Kevin Smith could make another movie in the UK with those characters without having to pay to use them or would he still have to pay Miramax to release it in America or Miramax would get money when people in America got it imported on DVD and Blu Ray or paid to download it on a program like I Tunes for example?
I don't see a big audience for the really old stuff either which is kinda sad for the people who created them that have watched other 'Batman' and 'Superman' adaptions go on to become very popular and are still being bought by people today like Adam West's 'Batman' and Christopher Reeve's 'Superman' meanwhile 'Superman and the Molemen' and 'Batman & Robin (1949) are barely talked about or even known by a lot of the fans of those characters today. I do think they need to get 'Smallville' on the DC Universe though 'cause it has 10 seasons and was far more recent than the others and they will probably eventually get it. I am hoping the DC Universe expands beyond the main DC titles too and we get some Wildstorm and Vertigo shows. Looking at shows like 'Titans' and 'Doom Patrol' on there I think 'Gen 13' and 'Wildcats' could definitely work on the DC Universe but I would rather see them as movies and Jim said not long ago he still plans to make a 'Gen 13' movie and write it himself.

Yeah Disney will get the rights to the OG ANH cut in the merger, the what they do and don't get comes down to something about market dominance, as such they are let allowed to get the sports stuff because adding that to their ESPN stuff gives them too high a market dominance and therefor a monopoly, also some of it Murdoch wanted to keep because that's what makes him the most money such as Fox News and shit, but Disney will acquire all their library of content and their IP's though.
I am not sure what it does internationally though, Fox may keep some stuff or have sold it all, depends on the individual laws and who owns what where anyway, but yeha Disney will soon own The Simpsons.
Kevin has always owned the rights to Jay & Silent Bob, they were the 2 characters he kept for himself, which is why he's doing a new movie because he can do what he wants with them, but the rights to Clerks reverts to him in the UK so as he has joked he can do Clerks the musical or Clerks the stage show on the west end if he wants, which he couldn't before now, not sure how making a film would work though, he probably could do it and distribute it how he wanted where he owned the rights but need to work with the IP holders elsewhere to distribute the films where he didn't, or could be like the Friday the 13th legal bullshit or that with Terminator, the legalities of this shit is confusing.
For Smallville I think they will get the rights back it's just the waiting for the current probably streaming licenses to run out then they can put them onto the service, and yeah that should be a big get for them as it is like you said 10 seasons of a relatively modern show, that's a whole lot of hours and a show that isn't too outdated.

Yes. They will and I remember them saying on Studio 10 last year Disney would also be getting other movie franchises like ‘Die Hard’, ‘Home Alone’, ‘Planet of the Apes’, ‘The Omen’, ‘The Fly’, ‘Ice Age’, ‘Doctor Doolittle’ and ‘The Fly’ and they had plans to make new movies of all of those and it was said ‘Home Alone’ was the one most likely to get a reboot first ‘cause they believed the movie would be a big hit with modern audiences. I wouldn’t mind seeing them try ‘The Omen’ again if they continue it up until Damian is older again and they make him far more powerful this time ‘cause I was expecting the character to be more powerful when he was an adult and what we got with him in the third was kinda disappointing just like ‘Firestarter 2’ and I think with the right writers a movie about an adult Damian could be good but they will probably have to build it up from the start again.
I remember hearing they also had plans to reboot 'Alien' from the beginning and bring back Ripley and I would love to see the 'Alien 5' movie they were talking about making a few years ago with Sigourney returning that would have continued on from 'Aliens' and had Ripley's daughter as the main star and that could still happen now Disney own the rights to the franchise and not Fox but I think it is more likely they will remake the first one and hopefully the actress they get to play Ripley is good. I don't think the 'Alien' movies have been great since they lost Ripley 'cause she was the main star. I heard there was another remake in the works for 'The Fly' not long ago and I don't know if they will go through with that one or go with something entirely different now Disney own it. I can see them bringing back Macaulay Culkin for another 'Home Alone' since it is something the fans have been asking for and a movie where he plays the Father of a son or daughter could work if it is written well. As for 'Die Hard' I think they should make 6 and have a break from it for a while before rebooting it and it would be good if they used 6 to bring back some of the old characters from the other movies.
Thanks for explaining the rights to me but I wasn't aware there were any problems with the rights for 'The Terminator.' That is a very muddled franchise and the last three movies haven't connected onto each other and this new one apparently won't connect on to the other three either and I don't understand why they muddled it up so much.

Yeah Disney will now own the entire Fox catalogue of IP's, films and TV, not including licensed TV shows like Gotham or Lucifer obviously, but they will own all those big franchises oyu mentioned and more, as for what they do with it I agree Home alone could be the first rebooted as it's a franchise that easily fits into the Disney marketplace, Alien not so much, so depends on how they are movie forward as I haven't been keeping to up to date on stuff this last few weeks, if Disney keep Fox open as a studio for their more mature content similar to how they used Miramax or how WB will sometimes use New Line then we could see Alien continued sooner rather than later, but from what I heard was the idea was for the sequel to be like the new Terminator or Halloween where it will replace Alien 3 in cannon and not kill of Newt and Hicks so needlessly, with Newt maybe becoming the new lead and Ripley still being involved.
The Omen will need to have another label as no way Disney are making that movie under their normal banner, unless they turned it into some sort of Little Nicky movie or sitcom which I do not put past them tbh.
As for Terminator from what I recall the rights got split up into domestic and international, Cameron got back the domestic rights but internationally another corporation has/had the rights requiring some sort of finagling, that's what happens when IP's get sold multiple times from company to company the IP owner 4 sales back made a deal with this person for X amount of cash for these rights, that person sold the rights to someone else or got absorbed in a bankruptcy proceedings and here we go, so bloody odd.
