around 60 pages into this. very depressing love triangle in pre-war london. it had a very odd cinematic beginning.

Patrick Hamilton was one hell of a writer, and I find that book has stuck with me for a long time, it just lingers in the memory like a really sour nightmare memory that can't be shaken away. There's a real seam of bitterness running through his work, there's no other author I can think of who writes so beautifully, whilst being just that bleak and blackly humorous.
