They've dominated for the past 10 years but they've pretty much had the main characters like Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Ant-man etc. Some of the earliest one I can't imagine sticking around too much longer. Iron Man and Captain America may just have Avengers 4 left. Even amongst the newer wave with Black Panther, Ant-man and Doctor Strange their actors are already in their 40's. They might not get Fantastic Four or X-men either yet. 10 years from now which of the main superheroes will still be around? Spider-man and Captain Marvel possibly because they'd only be in their 30's. The main problem is gonna be with coming up with new properties. Who is left that hasn't been done yet? marvel.com/characters/list/986/core_team_members?&options%5Boffset%5D=0&totalcount=17Of these just Spider-Woman and Wonder Man haven't been done. There's Theres maybe Captain Britain, Hercules and She-Hulk but youd be kind of scraping the barrel by then. At least there's still plenty of villains.

Cap is my personal favourite so it will be interesting to see the mcu without him.

Of course it is likely it will be around another 10 years! As for spider-woman she will be appearing in the next Spider-Man sequel by being introduce as Jessica Drew who is a MI6 agent or so the story goes, will see.

If the films keep making money. As long as it keeps making money they'll keep making films.
Apparently there's plans in 2020 to release 4 films a year.

People sang this tune at the five-year mark. "Who will see a movie about Dr. Strange or Black Panther? Fans know these characters, but general audiences don't!" I'm sure we'll hear this all again at the fifteen and twenty-year mark.
The question is not whether or not the MCU will last another ten years; it's how will those ten years play out. Will they continue to enjoy box office success or will genuine genre fatigue and competitors with more compelling offerings begin to erode their dominance?
You are assuming that the Avengers -- in their current incarnation -- will remain the cornerstone of the MCU. Marvel has several other properties to choose from for new movies and television shows. They don't have to rely on "main characters" like most other franchises.
They will inevitably get Fantastic Four and X-Men back - even if Comcast wins the bid for Fox. The corporation that holds that IP (and is not Disney) will bear witness to fan backlash so profound and crippling that it will force their hand. It will make the current Star Wars backlash look like child's play. They will all cut deals to either sell or be Marvel produced. The longer it takes, the more anticipation will build for seeing the MCU treatments of those fabled characters.
Loyal fans don't care who holds the IP - as long as it's all in one place. We will have what every fandoms enjoys as its birthright - one shared universe, under Stan, with mutants and cosmic entities for all. Hee hee hee...

Yeah they can make some bad guy films. Marvel’s b-level bad guys hang out in villain bars and hang with each other. They could provide great stories but problem is that many of them are Spider-Man villains.
Also Thunderbolts. It would be near impossible to be worse than Suicide Squad.

I don't believe the MCU will maintain the same level of appeal if too many of the original characters die/leave/get fucked with.

No they are gonna have their batman and robin bomb one day One bomb won't kill off the MCU. If and when the MCU begins to decline, I feel as though their demise will be long and tortuous. Apathy takes it's time.

Do you seriously think Doctor Strange and Ant-Man were household names before their films were released?

Doctor Strange and Ant-man may not have been household names but pretty much any comic fan knows of them.
To answer the threads question....maybe? The age thing is a factor, I expect Captain America and Iron Man will be done after Avengers 4 and they're the two most popular characters.
Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye will surely pack it in within the next 10 years. Only of them even has his own movies.
Don't know if Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Ant-man will keep going because they'll all be in the fifties. Guardians of the Galaxy might keep going if they change the team up like Avengers.
It depends what new properties they can introduce to offset any loss. If they got their hands on Fantastic Four and X-men they'd be just fine.
If they don't then I'm not sure who else they could have. They've practically done all the main characters at this point.

If the comics have been going for 60 years why can't the films for another 10.
There is enough material to go on for decades, if the public wants it. Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, Black Panther,Ant Man and especially Guardians were all far from known to the general public and managed to carry off successful films...who knows who else could be next. Moon Knight for example is one fan favourite many want to see
Plus there are also the different incarnations of established heroes, or characters from non MCU Marvel films that can always re-appear...Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider for instance.....Blade...Howard The Duck.
Teams like the Midnight Sons, Dark Avengers, Eternals, Thunderbolts etc could get an outing
The Netflix characters entering the MCU can never be ruled out.
Origin stories can still be told. Retro films, like the WWII based Invaders could be adapted. Even emulating the comics with Team-Up films...there is still a decade there I think.
Problem is, we now expect 2 or 3 MCU films a year now...will/can they keep that up.

Do you seriously think Doctor Strange and Ant-Man were household names before their films were released? Or Black Panther for that matter. Outside of the fan favorite actors of the MCU, there really is no such thing as main characters. Marvel makes obscure characters into main characters.

I think it will. I think it'd be difficult to generate the same enthusiasm as with their films from 2008 to 2018, with the promise of seeing stuff like the Avengers and then Civil War and finally Infinity War being dangled in front of our faces that whole time.

No they are gonna have their batman and robin bomb one day Only if they hire somebody like you for Kevin Feige's position or hand it over to Heather Antos, otherwise they'll be around for a long, long time.

No but it also won't feel sad either.
Unpopular take: I think the success of Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, etc, is in part due to their attachment on the current Thanos macro arc train if you will. They're fully welcomed alongside Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk... so I think audiences want them to succeed to be credible peers. The worst MCU films I think have been Thor & Thor 2, & Thor is one of the lead heroes of IW so his standalone malaise meant very little damage.
That Thanos ride ends in 2019. I hope there are seeds for a new engaging macro arc to be planted as early as 2020. Otherwise it's just throwing cards in the air. X-Men &/or Fantastic Four injection would certainly help, to keep known legacy heroes alongside popular Black Panther, Captain Marvel, & of course Spider-Man.
It'll be both easy & expected that the MCU keep trying to mirror realistic geopolitical fervor, to remain timely. More Stark-Rogers type conflicts of interest would also serve everyone well. The age of infallible heroes is well gone.

Marvel scraped the bottom of the barrel with Guardians of the Galaxy and they turned out okay.
Dr Strange and Ant Man may have been known by comic book fans, but how many moviegoers read the comics in the US and other countries?
The MCU won't run out of heroes. They're going to do an Eternals movie, plus they have Nova, Ghost Rider, Sentry, Kazar, Hyperion, Thunderbolts, Moon Knight, etc. Yes most people don't know them but that was the case with many MCU characters.
They can replace Iron Man or Cap with another actor or another character i.e. Bucky becomes Cap, Thor becomes Lady Thor, Miles becomes Spidey and so on. If they get the X Men they can make team and solo movies or team ups like F4 and Spider Man. The MCU can keep the phases going or they can reboot it.

I would compare it to star wars. Even if the quality does fall apart, it will still make enough money to turn profits. So, yes, of course it will be around in 10 years. The only question is will it still be the dominate force at the box office.

Yes, unless Marvel/Disney starts forcing PC down viewer's throats in every MCU film after Avengers 4.
