Yes! A3 ended on a real cliffhanger. How could you pay to see A3 and not want to see A4? It's not as though A3 sucked ass or anything. If their marketing is based around the cliffhanger, this would also be a big help.

I would say no.
With the original Avengers, nothing of that scale had ever been done before. They took the four major heroes from separate films and put them all together. It was something that had been built up over 4 years and 5 movies. So it was hugely successful.
With Age of Ultron that one actually made less money because it was mainly just the Avengers all together, except this time it wasn't new anymore and they just added in Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and neither of them had their own movie. So that wasn't as interesting.
Infinity War was more like the first Avengers though because they were also adding in Spider-man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy and was a movie that had been built up over many movies since 2012. So that had the same kind of smash success.
Avengers 4 I think will be closer to Age of Ultron because it won't be new anymore seeing all of these characters together. The villain won't be new. They will have Captain Marvel though but I'd presume the marketing won't be including Spider-man and all those dead characters in the posters and the trailers to it won't spoil it and that will probably cause it to make less money.

Yes.
It is part one of a two part story. Everyone is going to want to see how it ends.
Box office-wise, It will probably follow in the footsteps of the two part finale to the Harry Potter series. Deathly Hallows 1 made just under a billion. Deathly Hallows 2 made well over a billion.
My prediction - A3 will end up as the #5 all time worldwide box office movie.

What kind of competition is it scheduled to have?

What kind of competition is it scheduled to have? Avengers 4 comes out May 3. Aladdin comes out May 24 and I'd expect that would be huge if the Beauty and the Beast movie is anything to go on. Godzilla 2 on May 31. That's mainly it for May.

Yes. Why? Well:
1. Inflation 2. More people involved with a sequel than the predecessor (in most cases).

Because A3 ended with a cliff hanger and people will want to see how this ends.

Yeah. Keep in mind, this will virtually be the end of the MCU era as we've known it to date. Moving forward will have new focal characters, arcs, macro & micro plot points to keep us engaged. The Rogers-Stark-Thanos era will be wrapped. That should drive interest.
As will the Captain Marvel release which is only about 8 weeks ahead.

Yes, we got the Empire Strikes Back ending. The bad guys won. Not just the Avengers got thrashed, the Guardians, Strange, Spidey pretty much everybody. People will want their catharsis moment. The only way they can do that is see the sequel. I have a hunch at the end of Antman and the Wasp you are going to see Scott see his daughter go to ashes and Hope will see Hank and her Mom go to ashes too. Just when Hope got Janet back. Which will be even more incentive to go see A4. On a side note, my sis (who's 47) picked me up and we watched a Saturday Matinee with her kids. Her 2 daughters are 15 and 20. I noticed both of them were crying the 15 year old pretty hard. The 20 year old not as hard she just was leaking a bit. I turn to my Sis to point this out right when Spidey was begging for his life. And damn it my 47 year old sis had wet cheeks. Afterwards on the way back to the rehab center. My family was bitching about how sad the ending was. The 15 year old loves Iron-man and Spidey. I asked well you'll have a year to wait. All 3 thought that was too long. Even though they were sad they really wanted to see how A4 ends.
