Ill start by saying that 2016 and 2017 were pretty weak for me overall as they are hands down the two worst years of the current decade (2018 is still up for debate since it's not finished but it's pretty much inline with 2016/2017 for me overall) and ill say that 2016 was my worst overall year since 1998 as I would have to go back to 1998 to find a weaker overall year.
I have seen about 42 2017 released movies and out of those I only like 17. so to do my best to come up with a Top 10-ish of 2017...
1.Shot Caller - 7.5-8/10 (within my Top 105 movies. the only movie I score a 8 or higher from 2016 to date) 2.American Made - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 236 movies)
the rest in no order...
-American Assassin - 6/10 (Ill say this was 6-6.5/10 territory until later into the movie. it starts off well for a while as that intro area was done pretty well.) -Wonder Woman (for the super hero genre it's definitely one of the better movies especially given you just don't see quality super hero movies with a female lead which makes it stand out a bit) -Baywatch (The Rock/Zac Efron pretty much carry it as they worked better than I thought they would together. normally I don't care for Efron (although I used to think '17 Again' was a solid movie at one point) but he worked in this one.) -The Fate of the Furious (one of the weaker entries of the series as it ranks #6 out of the 8 movies for me) -Patriots Day (better than I thought it would be, but I am not sure how it will hold up on a re-watch) -Thor: Ragnarok (this series is pretty much the only Marvel movies ill re-watch) -Justice League (this is not as bad as some make it out to be as I think Batman/Wonder Woman pretty much carry it as had you removed them I would say it's likely it would be a Thumbs Down. I like Superman to but I don't really count em since he's got more of a smaller role) -Cult of Chucky -Atomic Blonde (between this and John Wick 2, I might give the slight edge to this one) -John Wick: Chapter 2 (the first movie is better which I gave a 6-6.5/10) -Kingsman: The Golden Circle (this is overall better than the first movie (which I did not like overall) as the first movies problem was that it fizzled out in the last 30-45 min) -The Love Witch -Baby Driver
so basically I only omitted a couple of movies since that's 15 and there was only 17 I gave a Thumbs Up.
as for worst... it's not worth my time to list them.
p.s. for the record... I have only seen each of the movies listed above once, besides Shot Caller which I have seen twice. so basically, I would not be surprised if a bit of my 6's drop off (i.e. back to Thumbs Down status (i.e. 5/10 or less)) but I would expect most to stay on a 6/10.
