Isn’t it too early in the year to be predicting the Best Picture nominees? Granted, the ratings for the Oscars have been declining so much recently that I could see them nominating what will most likely end up being the biggest domestic hit of 2018 for Best Picture, if only so that more people would tune in.

Most of the big hitters have not premiered yet , so it could be squeezed out. But Hollywood might nominate for political reasons anyway.

If they do nominate it, it’ll be a ratings stunt more than anything else.

Only a black superhero from the perfect state of Wakanda can save the Oscars.

Hahaha how desperate is the Academy to not only try and appear politically diverse but also devalue their own prestige by allowing BP to have a best picture nom.

Wow. This would be the final humiliation of all those Wonder Woman fans who were harping endlessly about how WW was going to be the first superhero movie to get an Academy Award nominated for a Best Picture. The first humiliation was when Wonder Woman ended up getting zero nominations, in any category. The second humiliation was when Black Panther took The Greatest Superhero Movie of All Time title away from Wonder Woman. Now this! Wonder Woman - the gift that keeps on giving.

Are we operating under the assumption that best picture noms are worth anything anymore? Yes because its still a major achievement to be given a nomination in a premier catergory from 5000+ members of the Academy. The Best Picture winner may not always be correct but almost always the nominations are the best films of that year and Black Panther would stick out like a sore thumb.

I agree it's not best picture worthy but neither was Fury Road. That horse has left the barn, the Oscars are going to make 'trendy' picks from time to time in order to appeal to different demographics.

I'm sorry but if Black Panther actually wins best picture, the oscars will officially be a joke.

This is an EW prediction if it was ONLY for films released in the first 6 months of the year. The Academy has fuck all to do with this.

Don't get carried away now. You seemed to have forgotten...this will be AquaYear. Though I think the pro-fish lobbyists may have spent themselves following Shape Of Water's success last year.

This thread is a waste of time. People will lobby hard for it but, it's not going to get nominated.

I'm sorry but if Black Panther actually wins best picture, the oscars will officially be a joke. Black Panther will not win Best Picture, nor will it be nominated for Best Picture. However, I am prepared to go out on a limb here and say - Black Panther will receive more Oscar nominations than Wonder Woman! ... How could to receive any less?

You are obsessed with WW. I would almost say that your obsession with the film is the real gift that keeps on giving.
